since you guys are fabulous and seem to have lived minute by minute through my quest for the 'right horse'.

Anyway long story short end of trial period with fab mare only hang ups are:
-hasnt jumped
-still needs work as in the school she is abismal!

but she has a fab nature and is generally safe and steady which is exactly what i want. very unfit at moment however.

can you teach a 10 year old horse to jump? is this too old etc? or would you say keep hanging on for something else however with such a small budget this is very unlikely

thankyou

You can teach a horse to jump no matter what age, providing there is no physical reason why they can't jump.

However if the horses basic flatwork is 'abismal' then obvioulsy you'd need to work on this first before introducing pole work and jumps, but there is no reason why you can't teach a horse to jump at that age, all horses have a natural ability to jump.

If you want to hack then these are pretty minor hang ups, but (and I don't mean this unkindly) if you want to school and jump, a ten year old with abysmal school work and no jumping experience had pretty serious hang ups. I would expect a really low price to reflect these and even then you need to consider whether you have the experience, time and support to re-school her. As Kenzo said you will need to establish basic school work, impulsion, collection, suppleness, before you can start on the jumping.

she is priced at £1200 :O i told the lady that was too much. She just hasnt had alot done with her shes lovely though. I want to hunt jump etc and I know they are serious hang ups however she has the nicest nature ever and I feel would learn once fit and with more weight on her as shes skinny sadly at the moment
