I've had my ex racer 9 months now, at first all was great but just after xmas he started going off his food. I changed it and he still didn't seem happy, then he was put off his haylage and after that temper wise he's turned nasty and biting. Riding was fine up until about 2 months ago-i saw Tim Jarman and he did a great job on Eddie. However now riding wise-well you can't ride him without him bucking, kicking, refusing to go forward. I had the vets out to scope him as he was showing all the signs for gastrix ulcer-nothing showed and he is getting worse by the day-ive been told to get blood tests done, but what do they show!??

Sounds like pain.
have you had saddle, teeth etc checked?
Try a physio or ciropractor etc.

The blood tests could show an infection which could be why hes off his feed etc.
Or problems with liver.
An levels which are not normal will show up and help you pinpoint the problem.

He has had his saddle checked, he has also seen the back specialist-Tim Jarman, and his teeth have been done. All worm counts came back clear. It's just a mistery as to why he is behaving so bad. I have the vets back out on Thursday so bloods will be taken.

Worth making sure the blood profile also includes muscle enzymes.

If your boy is refusing to go forward, one possibility might be some form of muscle damage - a more subtle variation on tying-up - and muscle enzyme levels could give a good indication of that.

Blood tests can be really useful in helping to pinpoint what's wrong when it isn't immediately obvious from the signs the horse is showing.
