help any driving people can u explain to me about the fitting

hi i getting very lost with the fitting conection of traces

i am new to driving and brought a web z harness and four wheeled carriage

pony drive lovely for me. but i brought the harness and the quick release shackles. but today the key ring bit came out and i was lucky to arrive home safe as the bolt part had come half way out.

i am also finding the traces really long and dont like the way there to much spare in my opinion and had to resort to tie knot and tapeing the spare.

which now making me wonder if i not got it at all right. though all seems ok while driving aprat from the shackle today. can any one tell me which bit of the shackle fixes to the carriage and then which fits to the trace and to what part of trace as i fitted it to the buckle and now wonder if thats wrong. i did have a friend to help but she not about to ask. i am hoping to get to a driving sadderly shop this week and going to take harness with me and ask loads of questions. sadly no driving shops i know are near enough for a quick trip as other wise i been there today. and help would be gratefull sorry for the ramble on
 
Maybe take some pictures of the parts you are having problems with and we can comment on those.
Is there a local driving club, if so try you may be able to find someone local to as who will help you, or phone your friend and if she can't help you she might know someone.
 
Every combination of carriage and harness is different!

You REALLY need to get an experienced driving person to look at your harnessed horse and vehicle, and inspect the fit and adjustment of EVERYTHING. Your horse is going well. That's fab, but it will be quickly ruined if you have an avoidable accident caused by tack.

I have several harnesses where I've cut extra trace slots because the 'standard' ones didn't come close to fitting the vehicle.
 
thank you, i been in touch with a top brand company over the fit . i been chatting to few friends tonight and we come up with what to do. its been a while since i drove many yrs ago but when i did i was with top people and all harness fitted and sorted. i just need resurance. if i thought the tack was dangerous i would not drive. it is fully sure just looks untidy as the traces spare so long so i taped them surcure so not to bang on horse. and that the point when reseaching it been hard to find my sort of carriage and harness to compare.

I take it you've got traces with a steel buckle type thing at the carriage end? if so, the curved part of the quick release goes through that. You must take up the slack at the collar end. Lots of makes of traces are too long, its just a case of cutting down and putting new holes in. Do you know how to check that your traces are the right length when in draft?

thank you i am doing it right. just need to know i had . i also been to a professional today who coming hopefully at weekend for me to go over it all. as we know the hip straps are to short which are not helping and the lady coming going to sort that out for me. sadly i the company i brought all this new from and spent alot of money with have not helped at all. dispite there printing that says they do. i will get there but it been slow progress. ta x
