I have owned my 6 yr old for 2 yrs now she has always been fine safe but strong. She reared up and nearly fell backwards while doing flat work lesson last week. I had her teeth done and they were not in a good state. After having her teeth done and having 5 days off then lunged and long rained, she has reared up again on a hack, she seems to want to be in the field and does not want to work. She is a big horse and not sure what to do next?

work her through it as best you van plenty of leg with spurs if needed just to get her going forward is harder for the horse to rear when its going faster than a walk.

just persever and hopefully you will see some results

she has had her back checked and the pelvis was out on the left so the lady worked on that and came again and checked her. everythng fine the second time. when she canters on the left she has four feet on the ground at once and not three. could that be something to worry about?

Fly reared all the time when i first got him but I put that down to a mixture of his insecurity and me not knowing quite which buttons to press. It's a bit different for you as you and this horse know eachother so well. All I can say is that I found urging him forward if he happened to rear or even better getting to know when a rear was imminent and turning him sharply making it impossible to go up worked. He has not reared for ages. If all the health checks turn up nothing I would say it is an insecurity of some description. Fly rears for fun so his back end is very strong, please be careful, obviously your mare is unbalanced when vertical. All I can say is be aware and as soon as she shows signs of going up urge her forwards and give with your hands. Good luck xx

My chestnut mare used to rear a lot (they were the totally vertical ones ,luckily she she has not yet gone over, how I dont know), mostly out on rides being a bit nappy, but she would also do it in the menage, so I tried taking her off sugar ( I didnt think it would work because she wasnt highly strung) and she is now on calm and condition and hifi lite. I wont say that she doesn't rear anymore but it has been a while since she reared with me last. Just thought I would mention it in case you have changed what you were feeding her. My mare is also on oestress and just started regumate.

thanks for you advice. I was feeding her on a handfull of pony nuts and a handfull of showing chaff with her oestress in. Only has hay. She seems to not want to leave the field and work, my friend said she was licking a calf over the fence the other day. Think she wants a foal.
