We took our 4 year old to the show today. this is the 4th show she has been to. Led her 3 miles (no transport) and she was perfect on the road saying this is the furtherst she has ever been on the roads - never put a hoof wrong. Started off okay at the show but they she just neighed and neighed and neighed. Was fidgeting all the time. Wouldn't let me put hoof oil on, kept kicking out. She had walked with another pony but she wasfidgeting on the show ground with or without the pony near her. Took her in the ring and judge stood her first. Only to drop her down to 2nd because of her bad manners, pawing the ground, bit my daughter, wouldn't stand still. Even though her buddy was in sight of her. She did her show okay ie no pratting about, rearing, cantering when she shouldn't etc etc. Reading back I am probably expecting too much at such a young age. But she was much better behaved at the other 3 shows we have been too. We have practiced all this at home and she is perfectly behaved, standing up etc etc. Is it early days and she will improve, she just made what should have been an enjoyable day somewhat stressful and not looking forward to the next one. Or should we wait another year until she has matured a bit. Waffling I know. Sorry. Tell me about your experiences with your youngsters please.
