Im looking for the best economical SWB towing 4x4..

I cant afford a Landrover/Range Rover and dont want a LWB model as im only a small female and dont like to feel too swamped.
I have between £9k-£11k to spend but i need to take into consideration insurance/tax/consumption as it is financed purely by me.

It also needs to be newer than an 06 for finance reasons.

I dont want a hungry off road beast, as it will be used daily for my work and for the the horses/dogs on weekends.

ummm.. HELP!!!

What do you all drive? Thanks

Kia Sorento?

Although economy is one of thigs you usually ignore when purchasing a 4x4. If you want to tow, don't get anything like a little Rav4...

i have a kia sorento it it my second one love them thankfully my work is only 1.5 miles away from home and the horses a further 3 so my fuel bills are low anyway but i find it quite economical going to glasgow and back with the trailer for shows. they tow really easily and are comfortable and easy to manover

i have a kia sorento!

You can switch them from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive to save fuel when not towing

they have quite good mpg for a 4x4

The tax is also quite cheap

I too have a Kia Sorento. Mine is a 2008 2.5 diesel auto and I wouldn't say it was economical on fuel but it is my first 4x4 so I have nothing to compare to. Also I understand automatics are always less economical.

Road tax is £425 pa! It's great for towing though and will tow the same as a Discovery.

Forgot to say - when buying you do get alot for your money compared to Discovery's etc.

What about the Mitsubishi Shoguns? Do they still make them?? Tax sounds a lot on the Kia Sorrento!! How much do you need to tow?

I loved my Vitara but had the 3dr SWB and obviously you wouldn't tow with that. Not sure what the towing capacity of the LWB is (not a lot I don't think but ok for towing one horse/two ponies I would imagine). They don't feel huge to drive though and my SWB was around the £235/a year to tax.

Someone was on about a Qasqhai the other day on here but I am not sure of their towing ability. What about a Nissan X-Trail? Not sure what their towing capability is mind, am just throwing some models into the mix here! Lol
