Any of you good people have any advice for Ten Ton Tessie? We're trying very hard to slim down and would like any recommendations for what to feed. Plus she's an absolute nightmare when her food's cut down & she's permanently starving, thieving and general horribleness, any advice on any way we could give her the illusion that she's full? Any help most appreciated.

Give her proper uncooked bones from the butcher and frozen stuffed Kongs with something low in fat inside to keep her busy and under the illusion that she is actually consuming something.

Have you the option of swimming her?

You could try giving her a senior/light/version of some of the better dry foods.

What age is she? Does she have any mobility issues? Obvs obesity and mobility problems are a bit of a viscious cycle, especially in older dogs, weight puts pressure on the joints so you can't exercise them as well as you can a fit dog, so they never lose enough weight, etc etc etc!

What she said ^^^

Ditch the Bakers asap - the dog maybe grumpy for a couple of days but that is just getting the sugar and additive cravings out of her system.

Have a look and see if you can get hold of Skinners - they do a light/hypoallergenic dry food which is gluten free and will be so much better for her then Bakers - again no added suagrs or additives. My sister Black Lab has atendancy to be being a porker but Skinners keeps her weight down and constant now - also reduces the size of the poo/colour as well as the farting!:)

But seriously dump the Bakers asap:o

Arden Grange do a 'light' version of their Chicken and Rice which I feed my boy on. He can be a bit prone to porkiness and this helps as can feed him a suitable quantity so he's not hungry but doesn't put weight on.

You may need to put her on a prescription diet just to get the weight off her safely. Speak to your vets as it could also be hypothyroidism, they will also almost certainly do weight clinics so you can get advice and regular weigh in's.

Get her a treat ball so she has to work for her food rather than just gobbling it down.

Echo the swimming, if you can find a hydro pool with a treadmill then she'll have to work harder.

Stop any treats and use carrots as rewards xxx

Good luck xxx

My chocolate lab is on www.thenaturaldogfoodcompany.co.uk - great food, a bag lasts me nearly 8 weeks. My lab has a cup and 3/4 a day split into two. A cup and a half if on a diet.
She never farts, has a lovely coat, and people comment that she doesnt have a doggy odour when they stroke her.
She's intolerant to James Wellbeloved, but can stomach Burns, which is one of the better ones

I had an overweight Labrador due to lack of exercise after elbow ops. We put her on Royal Canin Obesity Support until she lost the excess weight (3kgs) and then on Royal Canin Weight Management. I've tried putting her back onto other feeds but she immediately puts weight back on, nothing is as successful as the above.
