imy mare is so full of herself i dont know what to do meant to have a ode on friday but we cant even do are dressage test as she wont go round at all constantlly grinding her teeth and throwing her head last night was final staw she had me in tears. Any advise to help
 
Could you try again Kirst coz I can't make head nor tail of your post or what you are asking. Is it BITTING or BITING you mean and what does "cant even do are dressage test etc" - don't understand hun x
 
I wasn't sure either but throwing head around could be flies/pollen rather than the bit? Could you try one of those nose net things? I don't need one but I do find covering horsey's eyes with my hand and spraying fly spray on his face helps before riding.
 
a horse who throws its head in the air while grinding its teeth sounds like a horse who is in pain.When were her teeth,saddle fit and back last checked? Sounds to me like this horse is trying to tell you something is hurting her.
 
i would say the same as candyman, when was your horses teeth etc last checked? if it was just head flinging it might be a pollen/fly thing or just no i dont wanna do it.
but grinding teeth indicates pain or discomfort somewhere......

Id get that checked out first!

did you use a properly qualified equine dentist or a vet or equine dentist who only has the basic course in order to be able to rasp teeth? I don't want you to think I am saying that your horse wasn't done properly by whoever did them,but you would be surprised at how many vets and so called dentists are not good at doing teeth. Another thing to consider is poll pain,especially if she is touchy around her ears at all when handled as this can also cause the same symptoms. If your saddle was last checked 4 months ago is it possible that your horse has been in more work,gained weight or changed muscle shape during that time as the saddle could still be pinching even if her back seems ok at the moment. Again its amazing how many qualified saddlers disagree on the fit of a saddle despite supposedly having the same qualifications.
