Basically I have a field at the back of my house that i am wanting to rent of a farmer that hasn't done anything with it in years there is already someone els renting the one next to it and has stables and horses on there.

We have been talking for awhile building stables as it is so close to me.
I would love it if you could spread some horsey wisdom and shed some light on what i should do to be able to make it happen please any advise/experence in what to do and what not to do :)

Please Help Me And Comment
Thank You
Olivia

Are you wanting to build the stables in your own garden or in the rented field? If they are in the field then i think you would need to apply for planning and change of use if they are to have a concrete base. You could probably get away with the type that are on skids and movable. However, you would be building on someone elses land and if you were to leave what do you do with the stables? they are not cheap to build. If they are in your own garden then your local council will advise for free. In my area the guide was they were not to take up more than 50% of my garden, be more than 5 meters away from the nearest building and i think (can't quite remember) no more than 4meters high. I have built twice now at 2 different homes, one timber block of three and here a block work block of 4 plus a feed room.

Hey I had this idea to. You have to check, if you want a concrete base or structure, if you require planning permission to start with!

Hi, I have recently taken on a field to rent and we bought stables on skids so no PP required. As the field is only rented we dont have a concrete base but we have put down scaplings (stuff off roads) its about 10" deep and sloping slightly to a ditch at the back- it will be covered by rubber matting.
We chose to buy not being great at woodwork and actually the company i used was very cheap - comparatively
Its so so exciting! we have done the stables and will be building on lean to type thing for hay and storage. go for it!

We are still building our own!

We had 2 stables when we moved here and we have added a block of 5 (4 x 12' x 12' + 1 12' x 16' foaling box)and a block of 3 all 12' x 14'. We have also built a large barn using the same method.

We used 4"x2" timber for a sturdy construction and they are really simple to make. We had quotes for companies to provide ready made stables and they were over 10 x what they have cost us to build!!

Some photos to give ideas - some being built and others complete! we also did all the fencing ourselves - a long job but well worth it :D
