Hi
My horse has 8 sarcoids, 4 on his chest, 2 on his sheath, 1 on his jugular groove, and 1 under his chin. :(
I noticed 3 of them last summer, they were small and did not get any bigger, so I just thought they were harmless warts. However, in April I noticed they had doubled in size, so I got the vet out to look at them, and she said that they were sarcoids:(
I did not want to go down the treatment route she suggested, so want to know if you have experience of cheap, effective home treatments.

Macleans toothpaste was suggested by my vet when I asked for alternative methods, it contains titanium dioxide which is meant to be effective... so I have started applying that, but do you know of anything else I can apply?

Thanks :)

I have not actually had experience in this area (Thank God!) but I have heard camrosa ointment, crest toothpaste (or macleans, anything that contains titanium dioxide) and exxtera recommended (however, exxterra is very irritating, and may cause major irritation).

Its firstly very important to find out which type of sacroid you are treating, there are 7 levels. If a level 4 - 7 then you are very likely to do more harm & encourage the sarcoid to multiply or enlarge.
Some home remedies will work on the less severe sarcoids, but please do be very careful to find out exactly what you are going to remove by DIY.

Camrosa IS NOT suitable for sarcoids. It promotes tissue growth so will stimulate all tissue including abnormal eg. Sarcoids. Please remember many sarcoids are cancerous and whilst some may be 'cured' by toothpaste many will continue to spread and grow. Liverpool university are the experts in this field and personally I would go on their recommendations.

There really aren't any safe ones - honestly there aren't! You don't really know what you are dealing with 100% and as other posters have said you can make them worse and make them harder to get rid of by paying around with them. Some people have had success with Crest toothpaste - I have to say that I thought it was the high levels of fluorine that made it work rather than the titanium oxide? I don't thinks that there has been any scientific study done on this though and I would rather base treatment on scientific evidence, especially as every failed attempt to treat makes them harder to shift. It makes sense to me to give it the best shot possible first time.

My advice would be to get photos up to Liverpool and follow their advice as this course of action has the best chance of being successful long term regardles of price.
