Help, Chook Owners...

[Fairynuff]

two of my chooks have 1 swollen foot each and the scales of the feet involved are raised. Both are sound and eating well. Is this 'bumblefoot' and how is it treated?

No I suspect this is scaley leg - caused by a mite. You can get a spray from your feed merchant and just cover the leg and foot with it every day - it will soon go.

If you have any worming paste from horses rub a wee bit on the legs. It clears it up really quickly.

Thanks for your replies. Just out of curiosity Im going to try both remedies. One chook will have the spray and the other some wormer rubbed in. Will let you know the outcome

We dunked the legs in surgical spirit for a couple of minutes or so - tip have some wheat in your hand to distract, + is a 2 person job - when ours had this, about 6 or 7 years ago, never came back.

Vegetable oil suffocates the mites too

if you coat the leg with thick cream, this smothers the mites, i actually use stuff like mud fever cream and rub it on thickly.
