Hi,

I was in the agar nook/green hill area for work at about quarter to four this afternoon.
There was a small whippet/lurcher brindle dog with a small white chest, running in an out of the road. It was terrified of people, other dogs and ran in front of cars to avoid them.
I tried to coax it into the car with dog treats, open the door of the car and left it with treats in the seat but it would come no where near.

I followed it to a local block of flats where it scavenged food from the bin. It looked terrified- had tail between legs, no collar and looked thin ( I know this type is thin by nature).

I lost it around the back of some flats, on my way back from my appointment I spent half an hour driving round the area but couldn't see it again. I would be surprised if it was a wanted pet as it was so terrified of everyone/thing.
Phoned rspca but they don't deal with strays. Didn't want to try dog warden in case it's not claimed and they put it down after seven days!
Really worried for it as was trying to snow when I left the area - I live an hours drive away so can't just pop back!
Sorry for ramble - just wondered if anyone local to the area had seen or heard about it........

I think that DogLost is having server problems at the moment, they'd be a good place to see if anyone has lost a whippet. I would definitely let dog warden know. They may be able to set a trap cage to catch the poor thing. It's better for the dog to be fed and warm and dry in this dreadful weather. Dogs are not routinely destroyed after 7 days, most rescues will try and regime. Whippet rescue might be able to help?

Call the dog warden, they will take it to college Garth kennels who will do their very best to rehome it, certainly don't assume it will be pts after 7 days. Better safe in a kennel, then at risk of causing a car accident and getting hurt/killed.

Rang out of hours number - do warden will only come out and collect if dog is secure. They don't catch dogs but will collect if someone else has caught it.
No one else has reported it

Oh no, what a useless reply when you're really trying to help. Can you call dog lost and give them details, and hopefully they will have volunteers in your area who could come and help catch the poor thing. Try 08448003220 for DogLost.
