I have got my dressage test through, and there are a couple of things which I am confused by. Can anyone shine a light on them for me. I will ask my instructor when I next see her but am very impatient and need to know now so I can start to work through it in my head.

OK,

Enter at A working trot, at L walk then at X stop (have never heard of L before but am guessing its between A and X!!)

Then walk at I (again never heard of I but again guess its another center line marking).

But this has really got me: at I do rising trot on the right diagonal, CX half 20 metre circle to the left (what thought I was on the right diagonal to go right) at X change diagonal, at XC circle 20m to the left (why am I now on the opposite diagonal again to where I'm going).

Then another one: L 10 m circle to the left, L 10m circle to the right, and walk at X.

How can I circle to the left and after circle the opposite way but at the same letter?

I bet its really simply explained and I will feel so stupid, but really need to see it in my head and can't at the mo.

Thanks!!!

The 10m circles at L basically form a figure of 8 either side of it - a 10m circle to the left of L and then a 10m circle to the right or a figure of 8 with L at the centre

OMG you see, now I see it and just how stupid not to think like that!! Sometimes I must seriously lack common sense!!

The I is on the centre line, presumably they mean on the right leg diagonal? The C to X is basically the first half of a 20m circle at C, and then at X is the second half of a 20m circle at A :)
Could it be that it means half circle to the right then change to the left over x?

like a small figure of 8 sideways :)

hope that helps :) What test are you doing?
I get all my dressage tests off dressagediagrams.com, they have them with little pictures of each movements :)

Does it say you have to be on the right/left diagonals in the test?
The only thing I can think of, is that it's to show if the horse is well balanced as you're rising on the wrong diagonal? I'm not sure.

Hopefully someone else will know for sure! :D

Yes, it actually says at I rising trot on thehe right diagonal, CX half circle to the left, at X change diagonal, at X circle 20m to the right. I can figure out the shape I will be making, but just can't fathom why its the opposite direction to the diagonal I will be on???

Hmm that is weird! Unless it means on the 'correct' diagonal not necessarily the 'right' diagonal? But then surely you would know about rising on the correct diagonals anyway? lol

You may well be right!! I am translating it from French where it says: trot enleve sur le diagonal droit.

Thought I had edited this but obviously not. Yes I think it would have said le diagnol a droit if it was to be on the actual right hand leg. Brill I think it is all cleared up now, and I should go to bed as obviously way too tired!!!!
