Hiya Ok
Finn showed signs of PSD on his scan has now been scanned again after 7 weeks box rest walker exercise and shockwave and there is now absolulty no sign at all of anything suspcious? ! is this likely to have been due to the problem being resolved or discrepancies on original ultrasound?

Anyway so i have been advised to start road walking (i swear vets do this just to try and kill you) as finn is fairly sharp at best of times and usually lives out 24/7 to keep him sane so the idea of riding him when he hasnt seen a field for the last 6 weeks was interesting to say the least~! I got some ACP and vet suggested 3-4 tabs but to just see how much it takes to have an effect... finn is very hard to sedate and i managed to ride him twice on 10 ACP so thrid day i droppedit down to 8 and he nearly killed me! lost the plot and exploded 3 tiems rearing and leaping and bucking about etc on the road totally headless so bad i had to get off and lead him back. I gave him 6 more and put him in sandschool with a feed to keep him quiet he had a little run arund and a roll but didnt go mad definalty nothign that was going to do anymreo harm than what he had just done on road..
What would you all do? He is not safe to ride round the roads (private roads) unless under at least 10 ACP and tbh prob mroe than that needed as i dnt htink 10 woudl have made him behave yday...
Do i conitune to keep him in no trurnout and give him loads of ACP o make him rideable round roads.... (i dont want to do this reli as tis so bad for him to have so much )
Do i Turn him out in herd as the damage he will be doing going mad on the roads will be worse if anything for his legs? and them hope he is quieter?
Do i turn him out in small paddock and try and contiune with the road walking?
Do i turn him out in small paddock and ride him quietlty in the school for 20 mins?
DO i keep him in give him less ACP and try ride him quietly in the school?

any advice would be great i just dont know what to do with him! x
also
I called and asked the vet for some mrore ACP and they sent me 2 tubes of sedalin with 2mls 1/2 hour before exercise up to 3mls if needed? is it much strogner than ACP tabs? surely not that much that it wouldnt be susicide trying to rid ehim on 2 mls!?!!

Can't really offer a lot of help on this, but just wanted to say that our 13 hh pony was on box rest and was on 8 ACP and it didn't really seem to touch her

Not sure how big your lad is but that might give you some ideas on dose. I always understood sedalin wasn't as strong, but could be totally wrong on that. Sorry thats not much help, hope you get some more useful replies.

hes 15.2/3hh but LW TB type but i swear you could give him enough to knock out an elephant and it wouldnt do enough! x 2 ACP tabs almost knocks out my 14.2hh with prob simlar body mass!! x

sedazine is good but give it an hour and on an empty stomach try 4mls if hard to sedate my 15hh mare is easy to do and 2mls is plenty for her 20mls is a clinical dose and would almost knock her out say for a bad shoeing or really bad traveller good luck

Sedaline is great. I've been using it to bring my TB back into work and to turn him out. He has 2 - 3ml but it must be given at 45mins before riding and only properly works when put under the tongue. It's much easier than ACP to administer.
In terms of turn out I'd explain your situation to your vet and see what he says. Because mine was so nutty we agreed it was best to turn him out in small individual paddock whilst dosed up on sedaline. Seemed to do the trick.
Good luck.

Ten tablets is the same dosage as full sedaline tube hope that helps.
I have just done 4 weeks box rest then 4 restricted turnout and was expecting the same as you rearing bucking spinning out as we have done this before after injury.I took my boy out for the first time in 10 weeks tonight and we went with a companion and he was fine really sensible .Hes a tb and has loony tendancies I think the sensible stable mate really helped could you go out with a chaperone.
I tried road walking a week ago and feared for my life he saw hedge monsters.Company is always the best option for me.

i would put him in a smallish concrete yard (a crew yard) and let him live in there for a few months. he'll not be daft because he won't trust himself not to slip, he'll wander about a lot from hay to shelter to water (if you position them right), and you'll prob be able to hack him out of there reasonably safely when he's used to having a bit more space again and not so loony after box rest.

Hi I am going through similar, my horse is still on box rest but I am dreading him coming out! He is on 3ml Sedalin twice a day as he has managed to rear up and smash his light and another day kick out the back of his stable!

I went to vet yesterday to pick up ACP tablets as if the horse is stressed during the day when the Sedallin has worn off, which he would have had at breakfast, the YO can give the tablets in a small feed at lunch time. Vet has prescribed a dose of 5 tablets so assume that is equivalent to 3ml Sedalin?

The Sedalin, 3ml, seems to take effect after about 40-45 mins. Haven't tried the tablets yet so can't tell you the difference. My horse is a 16.1 cob.

Vet has also said that I can up the Sedalin dose if needed but someone I know who is a vet nurse has said that Sedalin is expensive compared to ACP so if you are having to pay for it you may need to take this into consideration. My vet also said that ACP is not licenced in horses and they have to have a very good reason to prescribe it e.g. horse won't take it from a syringe.

My horse is getting wise to the syringe, on week 6 of box rest, I am OK dosing him but I don't want the YO to get injured or need to go in his box so am keeping the ACP for her use if she needs to administer any sedative during the day. Hope that helps or makes sense!

Also there's a 14.2 TB type at my yard and her owner says that to sedate her she needs about the amount you'd give an elephant as she fights it!! So suppose they are all different and it may be a case of trial and error. I wouldn't put yourself or your horse in danger though especially if riding on the roads.

yes, technically vets shouldn't be prescribing ACP tabs unless it's impossible to give Sedalin gel as Sedalin gel is licensed for horses and ACP tabs only licensed for small animals. i just got a tube of Sedalin to try on my horse for the farrier next week as I know he is going to be stupid - Ive only just bought him and his old owner said he got very upset. I wonder if it'll be enough for him!

our 13hh took at least 10 ACP to put half way out cos she fought it really hard. She was still rearing up and trying to break out of the box. We eventually resorted to puting a small electric fence paddock on the yard so she just had a little more space and that really seemed to help her. I would think that a small paddock might make your life safer. When my younster was off the road I found that a paddock about 4x the size of a stable really helped to chill him out, he wasn't able to do too much damage to himself, less than he would have done doing airs above the ground on the road!
