took zak jumping today...and he was crazy. When i took him at a jump he started off with a four footed bouncy canter, then occasionally a rear and bolt straight towards the jump. I mean absolutely NO brakes (with a tomb thumb in) and jumping 4 foot before jump and 2 feet above it (and these were about 3'6). I dont know what it is...he is always strong and gets excited but not to this level. I stopped and just did some flatwork to calm him, but he was just so full of it. It could have been;
1. The big open field that the jumps were in
2. He was ridden yesterday but hadnt been for the previous week
3. His feed...he is on pasture mix (D&H) and a small handful of apple chaff-mollasses?
4. A mixture of all of this!!

Any help/advice PLEASE!!pontispool is looming and i cant take him like he was today, its really odd as he really hasnt been so excited as he was today..

I wouldn't have thought it was the feed unless you are giving a huge quantity of pasture mix. It's pretty non-heating IME.
My guess is that it is the week off beforehand that has contributed this.
You could try a calmer. Bear in mind the grass has a lot of sugar at this time of yr too, which may well have contributed.
Suggest jumping him more often at home (at a low level) so it ceases to become exciting?

he is on feelgood 30 calmer...but hes only been on it for two weeks. He is normally ok after not been ridden for week...maybe he just built up energy!yeh he doesnt get a lot of pasture mix....but he has got a lot of grass atm. Yeh i think i will try bringing him down a levl to calm him,Thanks for help

Dodson and horrell pasture mix absolutely fries my horses brain on half a scoop of it she turned from an easy going horse into something virtually unrideable. Can feed her oats or racehorse mix and not get the same response so might be worth swapping that.
