Hello, I noticed my pony's skin coming off around his ears. I know he is molting but there was also some bloody and insects the first day. Please see images. He didn't seem to bothered by it ( itching or rubbing). I put some NAF d-itch thick ointment on it for a few days. ( Which he absolutely hated, didn't want me to touch the area. He was lifting his head up, and thought he was going to rear at one point.) The ointment seemed to have helped and there doesn't seem to be any flies or anything crawling now, which is good. But there is still tiny black things. Don't know if it's dried blood, or eggs. See second lot of images. This isn't inside his ear, it's more so on the outside/side of his ears. Can anyone help diagnosis please and any suggestions. Would rather stay away from ointment if I can or touching his ears to put stuff on it. As he hates it and me now. But I know it's for his welfare and I've also spoken to the vet on the phone and he doesn't seem to be to worried and I said it might be aural plaque. Where to put fly repellent on. (Conversation over phone. Due to Covid 19)
Thank you

I couldnt upload them for some reason. But I was able to open a new thread and upload the photos there. I asked the same question on the "horse care and feed section" .
