My mare has to wear a hearbar shoe on one front foot and I am having a terrible problem with dirt forming a ball very like when snow forms a 'snowball' in that foot
This happens on a wet or damp day not when the fields are dry.The fields are grassy and not at all muddy.
I carry a hoof pick down in the morning when I get her in as she would really struggle on the hard tracks with the foot balled up like that.It just doesn't seem to knock out
She is fine once picked out .By the tie I get her in again in the evening its balled up again.
I have tried painting with hoof oil inside and packing with petroleum jelly which works for a bit.
One one got any tricks that might help?

I haven't tried it - but I was told to use Stockholm tar, vaseline or varnish so that the sole was too smooth for it to stick to. I'd suggest you don't try it until someone tells you this too though! I wouldn't want an injury to be caused from a tip that could possibly be an old wives tale!

Good luck
