hey guys! im looking for a new fly rug for my irish sports horse mare. she hates the flies and aswell as being chestnut, she rubs really badly. i was just wondering if horses get hot in them due to the fabric? as she gets quite warm anyway being a warm blood :) thank youu ♥:D

My cob doesn’t but then he is fully clipped out underneath it. I use it mainly to stop him getting sun burnt. I love the neck on the Mark Todd rug, I have found quite a few to be too short.

I had the weatherbeeta combo before and she use to sweat in that some days. but the flies come out when its hot so it defeats the object if i have to take it off on really sunny days lol.. is there any bad points to this rug? im undecided between this one, the 4 In 1 Fly Rug Gallop or derby house' own Derby House Silver Stream Fly Rug :\

Not had a problem with mine sweating underneath it, nor another pony who has one :)

Bad points - I would like it a little roomier in front, but I just use a chest expander :)

Mine got rather hot in his even though he's normally ok in fly rugs. Shame really as it's a nice rug with a lose weave fabric that does stop most insects.

The rug is fantastic- love it! Mine does sweat on days like today where thermometre at my field was reading 29 degrees though:eek:
On a 23/24 degree day he is fine.

hmm.. its quite an expencive rug so i dont want to pester my dad for this one if i cant use it on her very often :\ im undecided between this one, the 4 In 1 Fly Rug from Gallop or Derby House Silver Stream Fly Rug :\ but the size of the belly is really important because thats where they mainly bite her and at the mo the fly bites are huge!

It was 29 degrees at my yard today. My big youngster, who is black, was wearing his Mark Todd combo rug all day, and was as cool as a cucumber (until I rode him!). He doesn't sweat under this rug, but does with other rugs.

This is the ONLY fly rug I have ever had that is long enough in the neck and has that super lycra insert, meaning it doesn't move very far at all when he grazes.

Super rug, a definite 10 out of 10 from me.

fab rug, i love it!
It is made out of a shiny fabric so reflects the sun to make them cooler. our mare is dark bay so it keeps her cooler than if she was without it. she has never sweated up in in apart from when is panics about something and goes tearing round and round her field :P Would and will definitely buy another.

I was also worried about it making my pony too hot - but went for it anyway as he had a real problem with fly bites on his belly like your horse, and the mark todd looked to have the biggest belly cover.

He has never been too hot in it - it reflects the sun so if anything he seems to be cooler!

mine sweated up really badly in it :( found her in a right state - and that's in scotland so it's not exactly baking up here ever! and she's not an overly hot horse either!
