Please, please, PLEASE dont go down that road!

Why not I think he is truly fantastic and I have NEVER seen anyone provide the same results he does. No arguements or information otherwise will change my thoughts on Cesar Milan I think he is fantastic. I do not believe any of the accusations he is cruel and beats dogs up to get what he wants. I didn't say anyone should follow what he does, just an alternative... Obviously if I say something is right, someone somewhere will say its wrong. You have to go with what you believe in and what you think is best.

I don't think its fair to tell me not to make a suggestion just because somebody doesn't agree with what I have said, its a Forum!

I think ''It's me or the dog'' is a brilliant show and like the look of the techniques, luckily never had to look into things like this.

Cesar's techniques i'm not a hundred percent sure about for some reason but i agree its a different approach but i much prefer the lady on the show above as she doesn't just take over the 'training', she shows then makes the owners do it themselves and then tells them off if it is there fault.

I think some trainers even well qualified trainers are out of their depth with an aggressive dog. I can say that from personal experience having had a very dog aggressive male Dobermann in the past. I was kicked out of 2 different training classes by well qualified trainers who had assured me when I rang to book that it was a common problem and one they were used to dealing with. Seeing him in action they quickly changed their mind and I found an experienced ex police dog trainer who owned Dobermanns who helped and overcame his problems. This dog went on to be a lovely friendly dog around other dogs and even if another tried to attack him he would just pin them.

Op no one is going to blame you for having your dog pts but if you wanted to give it another try then really do your research and find a really experienced trainer. In the mean time I would muzzle him and walk him in a well fitted choke chain that you know how to use and gives you maximum control, he needs exercise otherwise he is going to be so frustrated and this will cause further problems.

Like any trainer they have their faults and positives, Ive used CMs methods in the past when a clicker and chicken is not appropriate and a clicker for the right situation. Having rehomed my last foster dog a few weeks ago CMs methods would not have worked, if you have a very sensitive nervous dog ,clicker training is brilliant so I would say both have their place.

There are good and bad things with most trainers.Every dog is different, so you cannot say one method is a cure all for all dogs.
As for CM, I think he gets a very bad press. Look at the poor dogs he has to deal with, usually dogs that are never exercised, and are shut away all day. How he doesn't lose his rag with some of the owners, I really don't know. When I was young, Barbara Woodhouse was the popular trainer, nowadays, her methods would not be approved. If you're looking for a trainer, make sure you are happy with their methods, if not, then walk away...

I am wary of posting advice on a situation I have no personal experience of but I do know staffords. Agree you can't pass him on as there are just too many staffords or crosses needing a home but here is my pennies worth.

Staffords are massively energetic little dogs. Even my 13 year old would go nuts if she didn't go out for her walks. I would have initially muzzled and taken the dog to classes. He wasn't properly socialised with either dogs or people and clearly had no basic training either. I would suggest he has had a very very bad experience with men to behave like this. My first Stafford was terrified of a certain age group of children, which I was aware of when I got her. In her case children had physically burnt her with matches and cigarette stubbs and she never got over it. The assessor who went from welfare to look at her initially took her immediately to get over out of her incredibly bad home situation.

You need to either be prepared to put the work in, with the help of a good trainer or if not, PTS. And without sounding heavy handed, you left it for too long. You would have had a better chance of sorting this with a 9 month puppy and not a 6 year old dog. His behaviour is abnormal for this breed (in terms of his reaction to humans).
