Help! Do I need to pull and plait my 4yo?

Hi all, I have been showing my 4yo over the past year. It's something we are both new to, yet we are managing to do well!

I have been showing him naturally, however my friend mentioned to me today that because he is technically a part bred he should be pulled etc.

His dam is Section A, sire unknown (presumed coloured cob type!)

I think he would look lovely all tidied up (hate hairy horses at the best of times!) but don't want to take it all off if he'll look stupid - not so bad if you're growing out as you can re-cut but growth takes a wee bit longer!

What happened is you posted in Comps and then copied and pasted to here. The photo links are shortened by the forum hence the 3 ... in the middle so just copying the text means you dont get the full link
 
He should be trimmed, pulled and plaited, he is not hairy enough to be shown as a traditional and not a registered M&M so should be tidy to be shown as a hunter type.

Thankyou very much! I have been up 2 consecutive days at 4.30am so a bit out of sorts!
 
Yes pulled and plaited.May I also say the overall picture would look much nicer if you wore trousers, shirt and tie, waistcoat/tweed jacket. As you are showing in-hand full riding gear is not correct.

Will be buying trousers ready for next year! I'm new to it all so have been building up my collection bit by bit :) Thanks for your input! Looks like he'll be a pulled and plaited pony next year.

ETA - What should I wear hat wise? Can I pull off a flatcap?! :D

Flat cap would look good MileAMinute, good luck next year! Nice pony.
 
Best condition and novelty classes it doesnt matter whether he is trimmed up

Part breds officially it does. If only competing at low level youd probably get away with untrimmed but any higher and you wouldnt

I think he would look very smart trimmed up and shown in the manner of a hunter type as someone mentions above.

If he can jump i would also try working hunter pony classes in the future

Thanks WelshD. I also want to try Novice Showing as a ridden class next year too so we'll be stepping up a bit. We are normally quite stuck when it comes to inhand classes but wanted to ease him into shows gently - once we start the ridden classes it will be easier!
Will get some 'after' pics of him all tidied up - might as well do it now as we'll be cracking on with DR over the winter months.

My eventual aim with him is to do WH - I'm a jumper by heart but my friend has introduced me to showing and I love it, so it's the best of both worlds!

Ditto. Def trim. He's neither one nor the other. He's def cob x in there. I'd say he's too small and heavy to be a hunter pony : they're a big leggier. But at local level he'd fit into many classes. And for WH it's his behaviour that counts.

Correct turnout does make such a difference and gives a good impression. Judges go a lot on first impressions so may as well make it a good one!

I've introduced jumping with him over the past couple of months. He's got a careful, tidy jump and tucks his legs up well so I think there is def potential in there!

I think he may be a wee bit heavy for show hunter pony, but we will see once he is trimmed up!

WHP is a definate way to go with him.
