Help- dog or bitch puppy?!

Hi are there any dachschund owners out there please? Or if not then any general advice welcome... Been to see a gorgeous litter today 3/4 dachshund 1/4 jack russell, there's 1 boy and 1 girl left and I just can't decide - does anyone have any advice either way and also which would be most likely to get on with my 11 year old neutered male lab? The bitch seemed to 'choose' me more than the dog but the dog seemed to love my 8 year old son so am torn! I want a companion for myself primarily so am leaning towards the bitch but have to say the dog is gorgeous and having never had a bitch I'm not sure what to expect...! TIA

I am not a daxie owner but given the information provided, I would ask how well your current dog gets on with strange dogs of each gender. It is most often advised to choose the opposite sex for the best chance of them getting along - so that would be the little bitch in your case, however I have had, and know of, dogs who get on fine with other males and likewise bitches. If your Lab gets on well with dogs of both sexes then the decision really comes down to which you preferred in terms of looks and personality.

many years ago i went to look at a litter of 5 dogs and 1 bitch with the intention of having one of the dogs as i already had a neutered bitch.....i ended up with the only bitch as she chose me so my good intentions went out of the window. my 2 bonded really well and never had a cross word so if your existing dog is good with both sexes i would choose the one you like best and dont worry about the sex...and keep fingers crossed....

Absolutely personal choice, I have always preferred and owned girl dogs and boy horses!
Having said that, I have a rescue a rescue neutered boy Goldie at the moment and he is a treasure.
One of my reasons is I don't like the boys lifting their leg to pee and mark everything. Current boy doesn't do that due to arthritis.
My main breed is flatcoats and the bitches are smaller which I like. I used to think girls had the nicer temperament but I don't think that is true, many boys are very loving and just as faithful as the girls.
