I am currently having a dilemma, pony every year around this time gets rubbed by her girth, not under the girth but in front of the girth in any that I've tried. The problem is that she wears an 18" girth which are hard to source at best, she has a Thorowgood Airoform Dressage Girth and a padded leather Horze dressage girth both which result in the same. She has a sheepskin cover over at the moment because of the rubbing (just taking hair off not actually breaking skin) but again the cover is too big and a pretty offensive colour so can't be used to compete in. Anyone have any suggestions of girths that come up that small which prevent this? I would have considered something like the polite fairfax but again dont come up small enough!

I had a horse many years ago who took an 18" girth and would get rubs. I found the best solution was a Cottage Craft girth with a neoprene sleeve. I' ve probably still got a couple if you are interested.

have you tried a stud girth? some people find they rub less.

My friend has just bought a truly bizarre girth for her horse. It's a dressage girth with a large leather doughnut in the middle. I think that's designed for horses who get rubbed easily. I will check what brand it is.

I haven't tried a stud girth but purely only because I have yet to find one, as she is the smaller side of 18" as the TG is slightly longer than it ideally needs to be. I think I know which sort of girth your talking about, the Stubben Equisoft? If not please let me know as the stubben at £210 i would need to try one before committing as i think she would be a little too narrow for one.

I think it is purely because these girths are not designed for those who are very narrow over the girth area and have a forward girth groove. I have a thick sheepskin cover on the girths for the moment which does help but it is an awful shade of green(trying to make a cheap fix in case it didnt work) and therefore cannot compete in it, having to split a long cover to make to short ones as again normal girth covers dont come anywhere near that small. Do you think CC girth would be any better as its the edges rather than under the girth that appear to rub her! Very Odd!

I had to have them made to order and the neoprene cover was stitched to the girth. This gave a nice soft rounded edge to the girth and meant the cover couldn't slide or twist. I tried all sorts of girths and they all gave him girth galls before I had even got down the yard drive.
