help finding lead rein/first pony please

I was going to post this last night then it all kicked off again with ted's mum how to win friends and influence people! anyway I digress......

looking for a pony for my son (2 1/2yrs) he sadly seems to have inherited the gene he has been pottering about on my 15hh boy and evil NF but he needs something his size (small dad is a jockey after all!) so if you know of a pony that has been outgrown or stumble across an ad I would be most grateful. It would be a 5* home and my vet will provide a reference to back this up. Buy or Loan either is fine
 
He's perfect! I know some shetlands have their moments but once you get a good one they're worth their weight in gold. The good thing is that you've got plenty of time to suss him out whilst you've stil got full control with him on the lead rein before you consider letting him off :)

I'd be tempted to see if they'd take £400 for him. The worst they can do is say no. There's a shetland schoolmaster on horsemart for £650.


If you go to have a look, ask about any history of lami and check for sweet itch.
 
I've never bought a little-un, but standard advice on here seems to be try contacting your local Pony Club to see if anyone has a 'sadly outgrown'. I think the best ones are often sold / loaned through word of mouth locally.
 
Im in a similar position, we have a 9.2hh pony who has been fab on the ledrein jumping, gymkhana, hacking, looked after my babies when they have been running around but has no confidence off lead rein, he is only 5 but cant find asmall jockey to teach him anything. It seems so scary to buy an off lead ren pony though and I have heard of lots of people where the pony turns out to be slightly p**s taking with a small jockey! My daughter is 4, I have let her go to a riding school once a week to learn to rideon her own but they can only do a private lesson because of her age so costing a bomb

This looks lovely. A friend just sold a leadrein/1st/second ridden for a similar price and we're not far from you.

Alternatively go for something around 12.2hh that would do lead rein but also first ridden and PC that will last for longer. These are normally more expensive though, I do know of one of these for sale.

Lead-rein ponies that are not suitable as first ridden ponies are often quite cheap.

Personally, I'd look on the PC website.
 
thank you for your suggestions and PMs (I will get back to you all) to be honest I have never bought a horse/pony they have just "appeared" ie OH bringing his work home or I rehomed through my work and some never left.......... so all your help gratefully received.
