i have just started looking for a new horse following a horrible experience of owning a large and very dangerous mare that was near impossible to sell due to sarcoids.
i thought after selling that i would never want to buy again which shows how much the experience shook me as she was my 4th horse.
however after a 4 month break i just cant keep away! riding is officially in my blood so i am taking a deep breath and looking again.
my main problem is.. having such a bad experience i want to buy from a reputable dealer who if any problems occur can offer support and possible exchange. i only want to look where i have had good recommendation.
i am looking for a horse around 15-15.2 mark who must be safe sound and loving. i want to carry on with local one day events and shows but i don't need a world beater.
i preferably want a gelding but am mainly searching for dealers who can help me find what i want.
my max budget is 4000

if anyone can help me in my huge ask i would be forever great full.

thanks imirose

You are far better off buying privately from someone whos moving up to the next level. You will get far more for your money.

Bottom end dalers don't know the horses they keep them for as short a time as possible; they buy them cheap (max 500) and then sell for between 3&4k. I know because I have several mates who are dealers! That is how they make money.

Stubley Hollow in derbyshire are very good

and I can see why you may want a horse via this way jjst incase you need support and incase you need to sent it nack but in your case if you really need that get a horse on loan for a while or be a sharer

Sometimes i feel sorry for dealers in this respect with people buying stuff that they cant cope with and then just expecting it to be sent back - these people need to make a living too! not that im saying your like that and I do hope you get a nice horse x

i am from nottingham but would consider looking all over the midlands for the right horse.
i would consider buying privately but only on an excellent recommendation with the safety net to return if not suitable. i am not a novice rider and have been in the saddle since i was 6 but it is very important to me not to enter into the situation of buying a horse i find to be unsuitable within a week.
i was very intrested in oak wood stud having a friend who bought her lovely grey warm blood from there but most there horses are out of my price range at the moment.

You will easily find what you want within your budget, but I suspect it will be from a private seller. And to be honest I doubt there are many private sellers who will do you a trial or agree to refund.
Reputable dealer wise you are probably looking at a 4/5 yo for that sort of money and from the sounds of it a youngster isn't really what you are looking for.
I can do you a 16hh 8yo saint in your budget, but his dressage isn't very good so is not really ODE material, if you are hapy to hack/xc then PM me and I can give you details.

i am currently riding and showing 5 year olds at my old stables to re establish my riding with some success and laughable 4-months-break-jelly-legs. so a sensible youngster who is mainly in need off slow exposure and with no major temper problems would be fine.
being quite small i think 16hh would be pushing my hight barrier but thank you very much for thinking off me and do message if you know of anything you think may be suitable.

THEY ARE OUT THERE! i have just bought a gorgeous boy after buying something that wasnt as described by a dealer - although not dangerous thank god but i did start to not want to ride and be done with horses totally. Anyway i just put the word round everyone i knew and then waited - i bought a horse privately but my best mate has known him for three years so were totally sure what we are getting. You have been stung v badly - i know how that feels, but dont give up and think dealers only as you will have to pay a bit more that way - ask every instructor/YO/ horsey mate you have and get a recommendation. Good luck, i hope it works out for you.

Gerty Tynan at Irish Sport Equine is really good and you have something like 6 months to return a horse if unsuitable.
