and I have to plait!

Now I'm resigned to the fact that they are not going to be very good as plaiting manes is really not my forte! The one question I have though is how much mane do you take for each plait? One inch, one and a half?

I know you can get those combs that divide the hair up for you but none of my local tack shops seem to have them at the moment and I'm damned if I'm going to pay £3.99 postage for something that can fit in an envelope!

So I thought I would shorten a normal comb to make it he right length but then I realised I have absolutely no idea what length that should be!

Any ideas?

PS sorry for the long winded post - I've just realised how waffly that is!

Hi, as a rough guide probably about an inch & half, but it all depends on the thickness of the mane and your horses neck..... any way a good tip is to take a mane comb, one that has a handle and put an elestactic band across the teeth of the comb, i.e across say 7 teeth and then you can use the elestactic band to measure the width of mane that goes into each plait and all the plaits should be an even width :-) I hope that makes sense and good luck.
