Hi, does anyone have any advice about helping an itchy horse. It's not sweet itch, although it is worse when there are flies around and when he's hot - he just seems to be itchy by nature. Are there supplements you can give to help. Many thanks.

try brewers yeast. my two have sweet itch and since using this and Gold Label Itchgon Lotion For Sweet Itch bought from ebay...........they both have full mane and tails and no rugs on.................

My friend's horse is experiencing exactly the same problems as 'Willow2', the mane and tail are itchy and he is rubbing them, several vets have looked at him and elimated sweet itch, he has had several skin scrapes...but all come back clear. We are desperate to find out what it is, but no vets seem to have any idea...any info on this condition would be appreciated.

I would give Crossgates Bioenergetics a call, they have an hair imbalance test (which I think is on offer at the mo) and it identifies they body's imbalances and produces a counteractive homeopathy remedy to balance them all out. It is really acurate, it picked up that my horse was kept with greyhounds as it picked up a greyhound worm... I Wwormed the dogs in the same yard the day before I cut the hair. The effects from the remedy was amazing and is a must for anyone at the end of their tether or with unresolved issues!

Hi, we have the same problem at the yard where i work. The best course of action is to get the vet to the horse where a skin scraping or biopsy can be done if nothing else proves effective. Switch can be good as it contains permethrin but it doesnt always work on everything. Sometimes a dose of ivermectin (in wormer) can do the trick or if the itching starts to damage the skin then a steroid injection may help. A management routine can help too, try stabling the horse at times when flies are most prevalent. Fly rugs can help. Good luck hope this is of some help!
