Small pony a rescue didn't have the best start in life and we suspect maybe have been weaned at a few weeks old and fed unsuitable diet. He's now three years rising four. I've noticed that whenever new food is introduced he gets runny poos and dribbles liquid slightly rather like the water syndrome in winter. But this is year round. Any feed change can induce this. Adding a bit of hay, moving to a fresh paddock, change of chaff,a few carrots. It generally rights itself in a few day and protexin gut balancer helps but this last few weeks it seems to not be working well. He's up to date with worming and was wormed last week for tapeworm and bots etc. any suggestions? Years ago a vet advised b vitamins for a horse that had had a high worm burden to get her gut back working well he said. Should I try this? I'm feeding a balancer but I think this might be not helpful as ther3s magnesium and linseed in it.should I try protexin gut sponge? Or just withdraw all supplements feed hay grass and low calorie chaff and see how it goes for him?

Obviously cases like this are very individual.

Tris had a really dodgy gut for a few years. Poos were rarely properly solid and he would wee SO MUCH. My vets at the time kept putting me off diagnostics whenever I brought it up and said it wasn't an issue. I was younger and wouldn't say boo to a goose at the time so took them at their word.

It then got really bad with a yard change. I used a new vet who was happy to investigate and found gut damage, likely due to the redworm issues we'd had previously.

We used their own formulated biosponge and T stopped weeing so much and poos became normal. He was on it for about 6months, I gradually reduced the dose to see what we'd need for maintenance and was able to remove it entirely. We haven't had issues since.

If it came up again, I would try a gut sponge first.

Sounds like your pony has an exceptionally sensitive gut and may just need some additional support through feed changes? When I first started the gut sponge, I also used protexin gut bind during the loading period.
