Help for paws!!

I have two Springer Spans one of four and one of 16 weeks, both get extremely sensitive paws.
The adult, Saffy, has had this problem all her life and on return from a walk she charges about scraping her paws on the floor and nibbling madly at them she seen the vet who has said it's possibly baby stinging nettles that cause the problem (it doesn't happen every walk!).
Imagine my sadness when hubby returns with Saff and Jack (sprog) after a little walk this morning and Jack is doing the same and clearly uncomfortable, although Saff is fine today!
Has anyone else had this problem and any advice, does paw wax work?

My friend has this trouble with her dog, she washes
her paws after a walk and gives her Piriton or something.

My dogs do this. It sounds daft but I take them through a really thick muddy patch to coat their feet before we hit the nettles, then I bathe them in cold water when we get home and it does the trick. It only seems to happen while the stingers are very close to the ground so in a few weeks they'll be fine
