As per title, all suggestions & ideas welcomed. Pls be nice tho cos I'm feeling a bit despairing.

Potted history - Trev is an ex-racer & I've had him for 3 years. Last summer he had a v stressful week & (I think) gave himself ulcers. V extensive bloodwork came back normal. Vets wouldn't scope cos their scope isn't mobile & I have no transport atm. He was v miserable & wouldn't work, & the vets weren't really interested. I also now have an exclusion on my insurance for lethargy (ta, PetPlan) from the previous investigations.

I put him on omeprazole sourced from the US for 3 months - straight away he was a lot better, but variable between 30 to 70% better. When that ran out, I tried him on Egusin SLH. Straight away we had a huge improvement, maybe up to 85%, but over the last week he's slowed right back down.

The thing is, I really don't think it's ulcers any more. I think it's the hind gut. He stops a lot & puts his tail up as if he wants a poo, & if he does one, will then work a little more fwd. He feels to ride exactly how I feel if I've had too much coffee & given myself trapped wind. I'm not sure if the Egusin is maybe stopping too much acid production so he's not digesting properly?

So what do I try next? Atm he's out 24/7 with hay & is fed twice a day on (in round scoops) 1 x re-leve, 1 x speedibeet & 1 x alfa-a, plus a lunch & supper of 1.5 scoops readigrass. (My fields don't grow much grass.) He is eating fine & always has.

Why not telephone some of the feed companies, Dodson & Horrel Saracen Dengie ect and see what advise they have to offer.

There are a couple of people on here that suspect their horses have "hind gut ulcers". Alltech Lifeforce seems to get some good recommendations to help with the issues.

Funnily enough, I was looking at Succeed last night! Have just looked at Happy Tummy & might try that first as it's a lot cheaper & less of a faff to get.

Has anyone tried either?

For my gassy mare (suffers from colic) I put her on GasEase

http://www.stablelabel.co.uk/

I emailed Marion ALOT before I purchased and was still a bit sceptical but was also desperate. Have to admit I haven't looked back since.......

Not quite the same issue as you but it helped with my mares gas.

Good luck!!

I had a stressy tb on Succeed all last season - we struggle to keep weight on him, he cribs etc etc. Last year he looked better than he ever has before and performed better too, not just a bit better but considerably better! Over the winter he maintained condition like he never has. I get it from Horse Requisites Newmarket. If you want to speak to someone about it, someone called Vicky is their rep. I have her number somewhere I can dig out if you are interested.

Lots of helpful ideas. Sounds as if there are a few things worth trying.

Succeed is about the same £££££ as Egusin & o/h nearly had a fit when he accidentally overheard me telling someone how much the Egusin cost!

Trev is dramatically better if he feels okay. I know myself that if I'm gassy I feel horrid & as soon as it's gone, straight back to normal.

Hiya, My WBxTb is insulin resistant and wears a muzzle 98% of the time. She develops gassy bloat colic if she has too much grass and is obvs laminitus prone. I feed her fennel to help with her gassy tummy- she had 2 hours grass last night which made her have huge bloat but exercise and fennell brought it down.
