Can anyone help me. I have a Ford Cargo 0811 and I have noticed some gunky stuff on the outside rear wheel. It smells like oil.

Does anyone know what this problem is and more to the point how much it could cost to fix!! Thankies

Not sure I can be much help but I very much doubt it is oil leaking from the rear?

I have a cargo that leaks oil - but at the front (where the engine is - lol). Could you have driven in something yucky?

Oh, it is rear wheel - soz should have read it properly! Probably looking at a couple of hundred quid - traffic commissioner if stopped you would be put off the road straight away so defo need to get it sorted before using it. No complications, should be no more than 3-4 hour job.

It could be several things.

1, the hub seal has gone, easily fixed by fitting a new one.
2, The wheel bearings have collapsed... bit more of an involved job.
3, The brake cylinder could be leaking... it is not forced to be simply oil. That woudl be a tricky one too.

Have fun!

Would definitely get it looked at before using it again.

The oil in the Diff must not have been topped up in my old cargo and coming home one day, ground to a halt, it had caused the bearings to collapse, and snapped the half shaft, had to get a whole new axle!!!!!!!

My ford cargo has just had this very same problem. Mine was just the hub seal so didn't cost a lot, but do get it looked at ASAP. My machinic said i caught mine just in time if you leave it to long it will leak onto your brakes and then just instead of it being a cheap job, you have to have new brake pads as well.

It is either Hub Seal or Wheel Bearing, if it is more grease than oil I would guess Bearing, Do get it fixed before you use it again, or you run the risk of the wheel binding and that coudl prove very expensive!
Bearings and seals on cargos are not very expensive £20-£40 and a decent mechanic could fit them in an hour or so.

Thanks everyone, my lorry is now parked up awaiting fixing

Good news is that mates OH is coming to look at it, and he reckons it could just be the seal. So here's fingers crossed it doesn't cost too much!

Got me out of SJ tomorrow!! YAY. Must bully myself into not being scared of jumping. I must I must I must
