I posted a couple of weeks about my old girl who was going to leahurst for ct and furth investigation on her sinusitis. She's been today and they've found a fungal thing in the back sinus anyone had similar????? :( two more triphine holes in her head for flushing and saying she'll be home no earlier than Friday :'( she's in her mid twenties typical thoroughbred and I doubt she'll be eating despite my efforts to get her feed exactly as it would be at home while she's having all this done she can drop weight in blink of a eye and while she's a good weight winter is coming and she does struggle she's never had it easy but of a rescue case doesn't always eat and frets if I go away and she's cared for by the livery staff she's known for years so now I'm worried all over again between now and Friday im making the four hour round trip to see her every day so she'll I've not gone for good and stand and hand feed as I have commonly had to at home over the years :(

Well at least you know what you are dealing with. If it helps, I was worried sick about leaving my horse there (she was in for 4 or 5 days) as she had to endure the journey (wouldn't box, then wouldn't stand up properly, hence heavy sedation) and I'd never left her in a strange place with strange people and she could be pretty neurotic under stress. I was able to visit her every day (at least mine was only a 100 mile round trip!) but do you know, she was as happy as larry. There was lots going on all the time and she loved watching it all. She was very good natured and not ill in the strictest sense, but a very interesting case so the students were always coming to meet her and they used her as a guinea pig for the more junior students to practice listening to her heart and lungs etc. I wouldn't worry too much about your mare losing weight. She will put it on again when she gets home, and don't forget that having an infection is probably dragging her down. I had bacterial sinusitis for a month before I eventually went to the doctor and it wasn't until I started feeling better that I realised just how awful I had been feeling.

Sorry to hear about your mare! Mine is currently going through the same thing and she too was admitted to leahurst today. Mine had a bacterial and fungal infection and a tooth root infection in the summer, however it has come back and she has been readmitted to do further tests. She wasn't eating prior to being admitted in the summer but after a few days at leahurst (and very nice hay!) she was fine and settled! There are people constantly checking on them whilst they are there and I'm sure they will convince her to eat! I hope she makes a quick recovery and eats lots of carrots 😊

I feel lots better for seeing her yesterday and I got to speak to the vet and see her CT scan they said she's responding brilliantly and aiming to have her home Friday she went for a walk and she's been allowed her favourite ball to bat round her stable Rosie I hope yours feels better is she too on c yard there seems to be a lot of sinus horses on there xx

There, see - I bet you have been more stressed than she has been!

I feel your pain. I was in your shoes three years ago.

My lad spent 9 days in my local vets where I visited him everyday and then a few weeks later was rushed down to London.

Hopefully they've found the problem early enough. Just remember when she comes home, you know your horse best. If you don't think she's right get the vet back out.

Thank you for all your help flutes coming home this morning ive visited her every day and she's been so well looked after and expertly carded for I'm so pleased

Please to hear she's doing well.

Not much experience but I remember a TB broodmare having the same treatment years ago when I worked at a stud and I was amazed by how quickly the holes healed up and how quickly she was back to normal (cantankerous and awkward but was still my favourite)!
