Ive put it on my mare for the past four days now 3hrs first day, 4 hrs second, and about 8-10 hours day 3 and 4, however my mare is just standing there totally rejected, not eating and whinnying at me whenever Im near the field - please tell me will she start picking at the grass shortly as I feel really bad about it (I know, I know, its for her own good!) and can see me not using it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the same happened to me - mine just wasn't getting the idea! In the end I put him out with it on when he was really hungry and just as I was thinking he'd never get the idea he started eating! Have you tried poking bits of grass, apples etc through it? Which grazing muzzle have you got?

My gelding did that with his Shires muzzle. Ended up having to drill some extra holes in the bottom for him. Sadly he only lasted about 4wks with his, it rubbed horribly!!

Its a fieldguard one, I thought itd be good as seems to have plenty of holds for grazing, I did try poking grass through it but my lady stick her head in the air as if im poking hot needles through it?? - thought Id pay extra for the filedguard muzzel and headcollar only to find headcollar has no safety ties and is pretty much a regular nylon headcollar ????? its bright red in case she rubbed it off and I could find it easily but when ever I look out at her when its on her it reminds me of a scene from silence of the lambs!!!!!!!!!!!

Have used the bucket type ones on greedy shetlands, they are nice and smooth inside and seemed fine, though I did have to tie them to the headcollar. Obviously they can't stay on 24/7 but they definitely help a lot, have never had laminitis while using them even on a cushings pony. Am going to try the soft nylon shires type tho, they look a bit less extreme.

I use the shires one and my horse did not know what to do with it either! One girl at the yard said it took her mare all day to get the hang of it! I made the hole a bit bigger and he is fine now! Lost a bit of weight and much happier

Please, if your pony isw overweight... persevere!!!

ours threw a complete strop when we first put his shites muzzle on, he threw himself on the floor and screamed his little head off. I went to the other end of the village and could still hear him

. But he coped, and soon learnt to eat with it on.

Like Katie says persevere. I could not live without my shires one. Make sure it is not too tight, get the next size up if you can. Two of my ponies are laminitics,(free of it for 3 years with the help of the muzzles) they have them on all day in the winter and always loose weight! ( they are on a 5 acre field from November to March)
