help has anyone bought a horse and it been diffrent to stated

i bought a warmblood who i tryed and was perfect since getting him home he is totally diffrent he took off when i got on him and tryed to rear in the school so took him for my intstuctor too ride and did same with her.
He was sold for 4000 under the fact that if he wasnt right she would take him back and this including the fact he was meant to be a schoolmaster is all written. But i cant get hold of her

Did you buy from a dealer? If so, you may have some come back.
Presumably you had him blood tested so that would be my first port of call whilst trying to get in contact with the vendors

Was the horse vetted prior to purchase?

How long did you have him before you got on him?

What are you feeding him?

What tack is he in?

What is your management of him?

HI,

Horses will/do behave and act differently in new surroundings,and can take time to settle.
You may/may not have him in a routine, he may insecure in this new environment.

Does his tack fit?
Are you just trying to get on and start riding without putting in some groundwork first?

How long has he had to settle to his new place?

Are you consistent and competant handling him so he feels secure with you?

Some really do need a strict routine, others are more flexible, some also take quite a while to settle in, and you need to be consistent and patient with them, they are not robots.

As said, did you have a full vetting and were bloods taken?

Even our 'old armchair' horse who IS safe played up when we first moved them off livery to our own place. He didn't like living out at night and needed his routine back.

If you bought from a dealer then you may have some redress, but from a private individual, it is 'buyer beware' I'm afraid.

Please explain abit more about how long you had him, what routine he had/is now having etc...

Are you now afraid/nervous of dealing with him?
Have you had his back/teeth/tack checked? Standard format for me with a new horse - check it all out first.

It must be worrying that you can't get hold of her, but as others have said it is not uncommon for horses to change character temporarily when they become unsettled moving home.

Warmbloods often seem to like to have a bounce on their back legs when they feel unhappy. As CHH mentioned above making sure you are calm, confident and consistent so they feel secure with you does seem to be the key in my experience.

Yes, and ppl who seem so genuine too. I have to say tho that mine was v stiff, unshod and bit foot sore and living out before I got him and had unmanaged cough and a poorly fitting saddle. So cortaflex, nb shoes, alphabute, newmarket respiratory mix, osteo treatment, new saddle and magnetic therapy has turned him into a lively one to say the least! Think we've turned back the clock 15 years! Which is great but he's no longer the dobbin I bought. They say buyer beware, so true but horses can radically change with a diff owner and/or lifestyle.
