help having a down day!!!

Sometimes yes - crap day at work, crap weather, no money, too many commitments. But then when everything is hayed up and done for the night, and you wander round before bed to check all's well and they are all munching and quiet - then I wouldn't give them up for the world.:)

YEP!

All the time...esp when he is annoying me or weather like this when I just look at him and see all the ££££ he costs me - insurance, livery, vet, etc etc

I hate coming home and then having to go straight out again - sometimes it just feels like loads of time and money and little reward.

BUT - then I have a fanstastic days hunting and forget all about it.

I have already made my mind up that if something happens to him I wouldn't buy another - I've had him 10 years and others before him and worked at yards...but when I got him I didn't have a mortgage, husband, house to run and it is too much of a struggle financially. I'm hoping that I have enough horsey finds to blag a ride...but I would miss my hunting (but not the money it costs me)

I agree and I never begrudge the money I spend on them. It's my choice and nobody forced me to keep horses.

agree with this - its everything else i begrudge spending money on - utlity bills, council tax, stupid car - but my horse, no never.

He is one thing in my life that never fails to make me smile - he is a sod but a genuine sod - he has no ulterior motive, is totally honest, tries his best for me and i love him to bits x

dunno why but having a real down day today to the point i sumtimes think why have i got the horses and why dont i get rid of them anyone else have days like that???

OMG ... you took the words right out of my mouth.....(is that a song by any chance!)
Just had a massive errrgacch! as been outside in FREEZING temperatures trying to fix spurty leak in a bally T juction in the water pipe....why do I have bally horses?...get home from work and there's no fun just more bally work when I get home....tighten bally washer again...still don't fix it....and if I didn't have bally ponies I wouldn't be fixing the bally pipe cos the bally pipe is in the bally stable which would't be leaking coz if I didn't have ponies there would be no need for automatic waterers...Hmph. Leaving 'til tomorrow now as need different part!
And then I go to get them in from the field and they are all standing in a line by the gate saying... in a Welsh accent ....see she does love us coz we're goin in for tea!!!!!!!!!!:)

Yes, yesterday, at field talking to my hubby on mobile, when I hit ice patch went tip over A****, he laughed,:mad: horses never the Oh yes. And at the moment he's singing the Beatles songs (practicing for his school reunion). Could I go for manslaughter or profication.:mad::mad::mad:

Nope, never.

Ended up in casualty again last night after yet another yard accident. Its cold, icy, the taps are frozen and I can't ride but I still wouldn't change anything. My only regret is that I have concussion so have to be at home and can't be loitering about down at the yard.

Yep, me too! :(
Think it's a combination of the sudden snow & freezing cold weather! From carrying umpteen slopping buckets of water out to re-fill (the frozen auto-fill) water troughs, holey boots & wet socks, picking out snow-balled hooves, mucking out sloppy poo-filled stables (due to sudden change onto 100% hay as no grass as fields are covered in snow), spooking at absolutely everything as everything looks different when it is covered in snow, being chilly, hungry & grumpy, silly bouncing playful behaviour in the slippy fields, silly scary bouncing behaviour coming in from the fields, blah, blah, blah...! :(
So not feeling much love for winter horsing at the mo!
I'm sure it's all worth it though...

Am I the only one loving this weather?

Today my TB was full of beans, all the horses were and I definitely think it is because a certain person and her horses have now left the yard. He came to the gate and waited for me to open it, and then bolted off like a bronco. He trotted back with his ears back and that ''im going to be a right sod today'' look. I collared him and took his duvet off and as I lifted his feed up he grabbed it and galloped off again, spreading his breakfast all over me and the snow GRRRR! so I thought, right mate, you can work for it, I'm not messing about and as soon as I jumped the fence he trotted back, munched up his feed and galloped around the feild waiting for the others to be turned out. They were pretty much the same and to be honest it is really lovely to see. I love watching them charge about frolicking in the snow, they had their mad 10 and the TB came back to me for his rug, he may think he is brave but it doesnt last long, he was feeling the chill haha!

Today was a pretty excellent day. My mare has come on leaps and bounds and my husband managed to get her loaded and bring her over and she was just as delighted to see the gang as they were to see her.
