There is a point with every new horse when they will test you. It may be that you have reached that point. Or it could be too much feed and not enough work. Or he has twisted in the field and hurt himself and doesn't know how else to tell you. Or he has bonded to another horse strongly.

You just need to go through a list of what has changed, eliminate injury and diet as potential causes and if you still think it is behavioural, take a step back and consider how you are dealing with it.

I think you should reveiw the amount of feed he is getting and the amount of work he is having. Since he has proven to be difficult over the past 2 weeks on hacks has he changed in this amount of time whilst schooling him? try hacking out with another horse it may be that he does not want to hack out by himself if it is only happening when you try to hack him out.

Agree with everything everyone else here has said, but you should never ever give up. Pick a day when you have all the time in the world and try to take him out on a hack. Stand there all day if you have to just never take him in to the school and give up on the hack, this just means he has won and will do it forever. I had a few months with my mare where we stood with our hind end in ditches for hours whilst I tried to get her moving, now she is an absolute dream.
