Help! Horse is seriously spooky and parelli seems to be making her worse?

Have had my horse for 3 weeks now, i got her from the sales which i know wasnt the best idea but i just couldnt resist her :( Shes rideable and seems to go quite nicely but does have a habit of bucking.

She is so spooky at everythiing though and trees seem to be her personal nightmare. Everytime she goes near one she just freezes and then tries to rear up. Even a twig on the ground sets her off. My YO recommended doing parelli with her which from watching videos on youtube seems to be seem just some cowboy running around with a big whip making them stand on boxes and something with big excercise balls? But being open minded i gave it a go and at first it seemed to work but now shes just getting worse :( Whenever i go near her with the stick she goes mental and she wont let me near her now :( My YO has got a stallion that she said i can breed from so i was thinking of this as a back up plan if needs be? My other friend suggested using drawreins on her to try and keep her head down so she she`ll be focusing more on that rather than the trees etc and someone else suggested using blinkers? Any help appricated as i`m at the end of my tether and regretting buying her now :(
 
I would avoid parelli like the plague! Unless you want a spooky head shy horse.

ETA Have you got an instructor?

Avoid parelli and if you have not done so already, get her teeth, back and saddle checked, and have a think about changing her feed depending on what she is on? Get some good help beforwe you make any decisions.
 
Sorry to hijack post OP.

I have a horse that I bought. I want to do parelli with her, so I keep smacking her in the face, hard, with a metal clip. If she doesnt do what I want, I tie her leg up.

Now she won't come near me and bolts for the hills. What did I do wrong?

Agree with sarah!

Parelli is, well lets just say not very popular with most members of this forum. lol

Get her checked out, back, teeth ect so you can rule out any pain issues then go back to basics and take your time building her confidence in you.

Please do not breed from a horse who's temperment, is as to date, questionable.

Obviously you didn't give Mr Parelli enough money for the full instructions!!
 
Option 1 - turn away for the winter (ie touch the horse as little as possible) restart in the summer from scratch. Treat her like a unbacked horse and go through the motions, headcollar, grooming, rugging, walking out, lunging, long reining, more walking out, saddle, bridle, more lunging, more walking out, the a little schooling, hacking in company, etc etc til she gets her confidence back. Avoid any attempts at quick fixes...they will just make the matters worse.

Option 2 - sell it.
 
Oh right Ravenwood, sorry, gutted what a stupid mistake!

So if I send him some more money, and I thought perhaps I'd purchase a carrot stick (so that when i lose my temper I have something to hit him with??). But do you think I should send £500 or £1000?
 
You might find if she's spooky that draw reins make her buck more, so your best bet is to leave her in them overnight and then by the time you come to ride in the morning she'll be used to them :D

Also is your stick orange? Because if not, I'm not surprised she's scared of it.
 
fab advice about the draw reins - defo leave them over night, they are completley safe. Maybe get one off those parelli bridles with the strap down the poll too and leave that on over night as well
 
Flamehead that parelli seems very different to the one i do, i hope your taking the piss or the RSPCA should get involved!

My YO is my instructor although i think i`m going to change to a different one as she seems to have some very weird ideas :( I really dont want to put her to sleep or sell her as shes my baby and although shes scared i`ve got really attached :(
 
Definitely need the purple stick changed, without a doubt. Carrot coloured is the only way to go. Rollkur is definitely worth doing, but if their chin isn't touching their girth strap you're doing it wrong.
 
Tinkerbee i dont know i think she may have been. I bought a cowboy hat to try and make the parelli more "authentic" but whenever i wear it near her she goes mad so i wondered if this shows she was abused by a man in the past?
 
Skye sorry could you explain if you're joking because if you're not I really worry about your horse and we need to be more serious?

And now it's clear you are trolling, you have used Parelli, breeding from a **** horse, draw reins and now rolkur. People on this forum take time to respond to what they hope is a genuine problem only to find there's a fat hairy ugly troll posting, rather annoying. Now get back under your bridge!
