Yesterday I brought my horse in from the field and he looked a bit hoppity when walking over the stoney yard. Trotted him up and he just looked very rushed rather than lame, I couldn't find any heat/swelling/cuts etc so bandaged him for the night.

Today I checked legs and again no signs. Took him for a little walk in hand and he seemed fine, perky and wanted to roll so let him. Then I lunged him to see how he was, initially had a walk and trot on left rein and he looked fine, then changed the rein, initially he wanted to canter, then when I brought him back to trot he looked a bit lame

Led him out of the school, onto the concrete yard and he was really limping. I got a friend to look but again we could find no obvious cause. His lameness seemed to be coming from high up, possibly his shoulder as he was flinging his leg out sideways a bit. We poked and prodded him abit but got no reaction! Friend suggested that his front feet aren't an exact pair, one is a bit more sloping so maybe this could be the cause. Farrier is coming next week anyway, though not until thursday, will get him to check, maybe should ask him to come earlier? Also vet is coming to yard on wednesday so maybe should get them to look. He was running round the field a bit yesterday, maybe hurt a shoulder muscle somehow? Has anyone any ideas as I am confused!

Thanks

i would see if you can get the farrier to come early in the week see what he says then go for the vet if he can't find any problem with the feet.

alot of people worry about lameness .
firstly i would cold hose and put on bute for a few days along with resticking his movement so he cant run around and do more damage .
i would do this for a few days, if no improvement then i would get vet or farrier to take a look.
just think a horse would be like us when we trip and sprain something in our leg we tend to hope around trying to take pressure of the ligament or what ever is hurting ,along with taking some kind of pain killer . i tend to see it in that way
if it shoulder again bute and rest if no improvement then get vet to take a look
a couple of lame horses ive had, that are lame from falls and trips ive delt with in this way ,and never had a horse not to be a 100%better after a couple of days of cold hosing and bute
