Would you like to try out a new product designed to reduce stress in horses????
Is your horse being shod twice before now and Mid January?

I am a final year veterinary student at the Royal Veterinary College and I’m looking for horses to take part in my research project.
I am trying to find out whether a commercially available nutraceutical marketed to reduce anxiety in horses decreases levels of stress responses when horses are being shod/food trimmed.
I will compare the effect using a questionnaire on the horses behaviour at one shoeing using the nutraceutical and another shoeing/foot trimming using a placebo.
If you are interested in taking part and helping me please contact me via email and I can send more information

My horse was, once again, an absolute bitch to shoe the other day - I am interested in your survey however, very unlikely she will be shod twice before Jan (if at all to be honest! ;)) so can there be an extension on the date? If not, I'll have a chat with my farrier and see if he will come over just to take off, trim etc for a reduced price.

Hi

Thanks to those of you that have replied! Still need another 20 though!!! I start analysing the results on the 16th of Jan, so will need the questionnaires back by then. If you would like more info please email me.

Thank you!!!!

Hello does this include youngsters who are still getting used to the farrier? If so count me in! Due farrier 21 nov and again before Jan :-)

Yes it can do! Please email me at rbudden@rvc.ac.uk and I can send you more info. Please let me know as soon as you can how many horses, whether they weigh more than or less than 500Kg, and your address as I will need to post you everything by Saturday.

Its up to you, its a questionnaire that you will fill out about certain aspects of the horse's behavior. They don't have to be particularly naughty. It asks about fidgeting etc

my girl gets ocassionally 'bored' by the time back feet are being done and will lean on and snatch away feet. - she then will fidget on a grand scale!
She is mostly funny about the nails going in (Sensitive sole)
My farrier is a saint - and were working on it!

Is this enough of a study??

Still need more volunteers please!!! Does your horse get at all stressed/ play up when being shod? Is your horse being shod/trimmed twice between now and mid-Jan??
PLEASE PLEASE contact me to take part in my final year project!!!

Rosy (5th year Veterinary Student)

Have not got a candidate for you , just wanted to wish you good luck.

I started verinary college until I got meningitis, and had thought of a similar trial.

So I wish you the best of luck with your studies and trial xx

Gutted to report that I have a horse that needs sedating to be trimmed - but he was done last week and farrier is not planning to come back until 26th Jan as horse is not in work, and hoof growth will be slower now....so won't be able to take part - but would really really love to know the results of your research, as anything that didn't involve sedation that actually worked would be a godsend..so please keep us updated...

Thank you everybody taking part! I will make sure I post the results on here once I do the statistics!
The more people who take part the better the study will be though! Still have enough product for another 10 horses to take part!
Please get in contact with me on rbudden@rvc.ac.uk if you can take part!!
