Hi all, I work onthe yard where I keep my horse. At first it was great was being paid to be on yard with my own horse all day. Boss was great and lovely to start off with and job was stress free so didn't mind the v low wages. we have since lost 2 liveries As a result my wages have been cut, she has now split my day in 2 , I now muck out am and return late afternoon to bring in, not what I agreed to when I started with her and it's alsoincreasing my fuel ( I live a good 20 mins drive away) costs! She is putting more and more little things on me. There are a few other concerns I have such as not rollins fields as she claimed to have no money but landscaping her garden...??? I spoke to a friend of mine who is helping me out a llot with my college course I'm doing and has offered me a place at her yard, not working tho just livery. I have agreed to it and said I'll be there 2 weeks tomorrow .. Now I have to tell my boss and I'm scared as she can be a right moo in the flip of a switch!! Not sure how to break it to her as I'm such a wimp and she is having a rough time due to personal issues but I need to think of me and my horse!! Any ideas ....???????

just say that its to do with college if you dont want to say outright whhy...i wouldnt say where you are going though...
seems a bit unfair that shes cutting your wages etc.

I would just tell her its a money issue and also you need to concentrate on your college work. In todays credit crunch and the decrease in your wages she should understand.

If you pay monthly you may have to give 4 weeks notice or pay weekly then you only have to give one.

Good Luck

And you could add you're moving to a friend's yard as she is going to help you with your horse (even if she's not!) as it emphasises your lack of time, devoting time to college etc

I don't pay her at all as it's part of my wages!! I think u are both right going for the college angle!! I have 2 kids as well that I need to take up to yard when I bring in as I dint get paid enough to cover child care they don't get to bed till 9pm by time I get in do dinner bath homework etc and it was mentioned in their school reports they look tired some morning, just not fair on them!!

In that case i would say that you need to concentrate on College work and also need to spend more time with your kids. As thier homework is increasing and they need more time at home.

i'd check with the new yard whether you could go straight away, if you are working in lieu of paying livery, your yard owner might be a bit odd and want you out immediately, just an idea to know ahead of time whether it's feasible.
i'd tell her a version of the truth, that the afternoon stint is just not fair on your children, you aren't paid enough for childcare for them, and you need more time for college too.
very best of luck.

Do the whole its not you its me thing. Much easier and with any luck no bridges burnt.
Iv just got a new job and used this to leave my old job, really happy that im not leaving on a bad note.

I told her!!!! Went better than I was expecting!! Explained that kids were suffering and so was my college work so all is good there!!!

Thanks for the advice it really helped!!
