Leave the door open and have 1 of those plastic covered chains across instead. That is what was done to a horse at my yard that kicks the door so much he injures himself.

I used to shout at my boy when he did it - to get attention...and if he kept doing it I would kick the door back and shout at him! I personally think it's rude but the door would be open with chain across if in for lengthy time...carpet on the inside would also help your horse from injury.

This is how I managed it, but he didnt do it again...learnt very quickly.

Good luck to what ever you do with him....it's very annoying though

QR - My boy used to kick in the middle of the night and the neighbours complained he was waking them up. For that winter only I put a grid up (like an anti-weave bar but no hole for him to look out of) so he couldn't get his head out to kick the door. No amount of carpet or rubber matting on the inside of the door stopped the noise. I then moved yards and he hasn't kicked since but he is out 24/7 unless it's torrential rain now.

you can get a attachment that goes on door which will squirt him when he kicks it. sort of like the squirty dog collars for barkers. saw ad for them sussex i think but cant remember where i saw it! you could talk to the dog collar people to see if they can adapt one?

my youngster did this I tried most things. trouble is what did work for me I needed to be there. It was so so simple,,,,, everytime he banged he got a loud yell of NO NO then when he stopped or called to me he got 'goodboy' over and over again, within days he improved won't say he stopped all together but its only been a few weeks. He is being turned away soon so won't know if it fully stops

thank you, really like the brush idea.
don't think he is stressed, he is turned out every day and stabled at night, with plenty of hay and haylage.(loves his food). he also as my old mare stabled at the side of him, i can't turn them out 24/7 as my old girl is prone to laminitis.
