I am definitely very bad in traffic, the opposite of bombproof in fact. Fortunately ponio is excellent on the roads, and ignores my absolute terror.

I just can't seem to relax, and there's no way I could ride on the roads on my own. Even if I'm hacking with others, I am constantly tense. Does anyone else get like this?

Any ideas for how I can learn to relax out hacking on the roads?

oh yeah thanks weezy i could do with some of that. have no reason why my confidence is slowly ebbing away so this will do nicely! xxx

Yep I have used it - can honestly say I thought it was a bit of clap trap before I did it

I didn't have anything major to get over, I did a sesh so I knew what I was talking about as I was working for Coligone and Jo shared our stand at YHL. ANYWAY, I tapped for handling horses in fields, I had gotten rather weary about it after my 4 year old used to take much delight in rearing when going out to the field - it has deffo helped as I am happy as larry again now, even in a field full of un-handled 2 year olds

PM Alibabe and H's Mum, they have both had really great results, Jo even managed to cure H's Mum's debilitating phobia of false teeth (I kid you not!!!)

so would it work on a fear of flying too? Have to fly to the states for Christmas 2008 and honestly don't know how I'm going to get on the plane....

Is it expensive?

Oh for absolute sure it would work for flying - look at the other case studies on Jo's site, I am sure there is a flying one

It costs £50, telephone sessions and as many as you need is included in that price. Tell Jo I recommended you call her, have a chat or an email exchange with her and go from there - she is really lovely and will talk you through the whole process and then you can decide if it is for you or not.

Thanks Weezy, may well give that a go. Am a totally neurotic person, and although my confidence has improved a lot with my pony, there's only so much he can do for me, I need to work on my irrational fears myself!!

thanks from me weezy i will look into that - on a smaller scale bex1984 try getting a balance strap that fits onto the d rings at the front of the saddle - so you can hold the reins with one hand and the strap with the other i makes you feel much safer and has worked wonders for me with my spooky horse - so much so that she isnt so bad because i am less tense and dont pull on her mouth when i get worried x

ooo I do have one actually. I don't know why I get so tense, as pony doesn't really spook at anything on the roads, and he ignores my tensing up and just carries on regardless!

Thank goodness riding on the roads is about the only thing I don't fret/panic about. I am always out with body protector, hat, hi-viz gear, long schooling whip with a bright end to poke at the traffic (!!) and my balance strap (which I love).

The answer to my fear of flying, ask the airline for allocated seats where you will feel safest, maybe at the front or near an exit, and valium from the GP!
