Hello!

Me and my OH graduated from uni last summer, and have since found it very hard to get any work in Somerset. My OH made the decision to move in with some flatmates in Edgbaston (he was at uni for 3 years and lived in Selly Oak) and he moved in yesterday in the hope of more opportunities in finding a job and more of a social life than in rural Somerset :)

I am thinking of moving up with him in the next few weeks as there is nothing here for me and I have put off buying a horse for the next few years to start a career (only reason I am still here is my cat needs an operation tomorrow, and OH is going to see how the job market goes until I come up).

Now the first thing I thought was that I have to find somewhere to ride!!!

I have been very lucky at home with a few friends allowing me to ride their horses whenever I want.

Does anyone else live in the area and know of anywhere good to ride that is within a reasonable driving distance? I am hoping that once I am settled up there and HOPEFULLY have a job, I may start to look for a share horse to keep me sane (I am not a city type of gal!).

Hope it all goes to plan, being here without a job is starting to drive me nuts!!!

In that case the nearest place to ride would be the stables in Sandwell Valley - limited riding round the nature reserve which is in between the M5 and M6.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive there are more horsey places to the west (towards Kidderminster/Hagley) or there is always the Solihull Riding School - probably the biggest yard around does competitions etc so maybe a good place to meet people.

How competant a rider are you?:)

Bourne Vale riding school - other side of city but good road links so will take about 30 minutes.
I am just other side of town too in a little piece of greenbelt absolutely FULL of horses, yards and fields.

If you need any more info etc drop me a PM. :D

Thanks! Will look into them.

I would say I am pretty competent, been riding for over 10 years, brought on a few youngsters, don't mind quirky horses etc and have loaned and shared many horses in the past few years. The only thing that I do loose my confidence over at the moment is jumping. Have had a couple of accidents and never really had the ride of a good jumper ever since, only very quirky jumpers or young horses that have not yet been introduced to jumping.

I was worried about moving to Brum, but am now looking forward to it....I don't think I can not ride at all though!

Well I'm a couple miles down the road from SRC and I have 3 (two horses and 1 pony) that need sharing. My sig one desperately needs one as I am hoping to go to uni this year, however it would be off our own yard. Might be a bit far for you?

Other than that, Earlswood and Major's Green have some riding schools :)
