HELP I thought my horse box would tip!

what chassis is it? if its a 3.5 tonne chassis then thats its total weight, it would need to be a larger chassis to carry 3 tonnes. can you confirm the actual chassis? a picture would be good.

We had a VWLT35 (total weight of this chassis is 3.5 tonnes) and carried a small horse and a pony it it and never felt like this, we now have a LT50 (to carry a small and a larger horse) and I never feel like its leaning over. I owuld be very concerned if it did

I am currently having a 6.5T lorry built. The coachbuilders say I will have approx. 2.5T payload but they won't confirm the exact payload until they have completed the build and weighed it. It is a 16 ft box, stalled for 2 horse, three pony and will have a full live-in. They have moved the rear axle back to ensure the payload will be evenly distributed.
If your lorry is smaller in length and has minimal live-in, you may well have 3.5T payload.
It doesn't sound right that you felt it was going to topple over though.

My OH and I have a 6.5ton Iveco lorry, it is coachbuilt onto a used chassis (think it was a Comet delivery lorry or something similar).

We carry 2 full size horses herringbone and have never had a situation like you describe. It is very low to the ground though and looks stable. Is yours quite high??

It is the red lorry in the background in this photo..

Hope you get hold of the firm who converted it and get it sorted soon. Good luck.

.. ah ha!! and thats my problem!!! thank you for all the advice. im learning fast!

I take it you're saying the springs are what's causing the rolling. IMHO then in that case it's the professional who did the conversion who has the problem. As a pro surely they should have advised you that the springs needed uprating?
