I wonder if anyone here can help with this -

Please excuse the shorthand language used, I've pasted the text in below from a message I sent in an online form to several rescue organisations.

I wonder if you can help me trace a horse or if you are aware of a non registered horse rescue charity that promoted itself on the internet several years ago in the Tamworth area. Due to fairly extreme personal circumstances I placed my horse there temporarily in 2001 and was subsequently advised the premises were rented and the manager had had mental health issues and 'rehomed' the horses.

I have been trying to find a contact ,or my horse since.

He is a 15hh american standard bred or 'pacer' and freezemarked with fairly easy to recognise markings, snip over one nostril. unusual white bands just above coronet etc. I also have non digital photographs of him He will be about 20 now I appreciate much time has passed and at the time I was advised he had probably been sold.

If you have any information that could help I would very much appreciate it and can be contacted by PM or via the forum. I loved this horse and had paperwork from the manager saying he would never be re-located without my written permission.

The last time Iwent there the place was all closed up with no one on site but I haven't given up.

I know it's a long shot - makes me cry still to think about this horse.

Sorry - I cant help but all the best of luck

I am from the west midlands and a friend has just got a horse from a rescue centre near Tamworth but she it is an oldish palamino about 14.2.I haven't seen her yet. She is abroad at the moment so I can't ask her for details until next week .It may have nothing to do with the rescue centre you used but it is a long shot.
Post your horses freezemarking may help and scan the photo to get it on here. Also why not put the lady's name someone may know of her

Hi

Thank you very much for your reply - and ANYONE who may have even a slight possibility of helping

I'll get the pictures scanned in, didn't put his freezemark in as want to check the order of the letters and pictures are at work as I copied them to send somewhere else- makes me too sad to keep them close by (will do this week).

Deliberately have left off name as didn't want to cause any problems should I be lucky enough to make a contact. I don't want to antagonise anyone. If anyone wants to PM please do.

Please ask your friend, I was also told the 'rescue' would be relocated, in fact I was told many things before finding the web site was not on line and the phone numbers didn't work.

It was the daughter of the centre that rang me to say her mother had been sectioned in the end. But it may not have been so, that's why no names.

I am in South of England though which is why this is so difficult.

thanks so much though.

That is awful, cant imagine what you are going through.

Have you thought about contacting the BHS Welfare Officer local to the area who may have some knowledge of what happened? Im sure that, knowing what horsey communities are like, someone locally would have some information. Perhaps you could get in touch with tackshops/farriers/vets/riding clubs in that area too?

Best of luck and I hope you get your boy back soon.

Hx

BHS Welfare Officer is a good idea. I've done the vets/tackshops etc several years ago.

My thinking is trying again now might just have another generation of people around who will ask around... in truth I just try again periodically just in case.

I might try an ad in the local press again. In the saddest times I assume he will have been bought by people wanting to race him again as he was an ex harness racer.

If I knew he was being looked after/had been (he might not be around any more was 14 or so then) it would be OK if I couldn't have him back but I've spent so long worrying about him now.

EEEEEEEEEEK.. just re-read this, can't edit it now there's a TYPO. It shoud say TaNworth in arden as in near Birmingham. Is my geography miles out?

Going to feed now will look for some paperwork in the house later though I've moved three times myself since then which doesn't help. Same mobile number though!

Thanks to all again... I can't even remember the address anymore without looking it up. WIll do it later and happy to PM more info to anyone who might know something.

ETA to add - is about 25 miles away. Just checked

Have you tried the Veteran Horse Society in case someone has passed him on to them?
I do remember them having a pacer on their rehoming pages a while back - think it might have been bigger than yours so probably not the same horse, but it might be worth getting in touch with them anyway to ask them to keep a look out?

I cannot help you in tracing your horse, but the same think happened to me, I gave my horse to a rest home because of extreme personal circumstances and then thought I would be able to visit her on a regular basis, they re-homed her and wont tell me where, I will never see her again. I do feel for you too!!!

There is a lady that goes to Solihull riding club that has a sign on her horsebox saying she is some sort of horse rescue centre .I know because she phoned me when we were selling a horsebox and tried to get me to almost give it to her.Tanworth in Arden is very near Solihull .I will try to find out more

I think it might be more common than I thought. At the time I was struggling to look after myself never mind him. I had two and one was only a 2 year old that I put out to grass though a loaner did the work. I did offer to contribute something for him. I went to see him several times before within weeks of a visit no more contact and numbers not working etc

Was a little while before I could get there as I was 300 miles away then, nothing there. I was still haveing major personal problems and the three arrangements I'd tried to make for him prior to sending him thre hadn't worked out. A major regret I will always feel guilty for.

Is one of the reasons I've held onto my current mare. She's a real pain sometimes but I can't let her be shipped around like he had been.

The freezemark registration had expired (I know - stupid but one of my problems at the time was finances, that and relationships and health). I am having my young horse freezemarked tomorrow though so will ask the operator about follow up if possible.
