Ok I'm after advice on feeding. I have an ex racer whose been treated for ulcers in the past. He is currently on saracen superfibre pencils, dengie healthy tummy and purabeet with turmeric, micronised linseed & pepper. He also has lots of grass as good grazing. He currently is still living out but my issue is that when he's standing in his legs swell even just for overnight. People have mentioned to me it could be his diet? Perhaps the alfalfa? Or lack
Of iodine? Not sure where to start!

Many horses will get swollen legs when they change routine from being out 24/7 to being in overnight but adjust once they are in a routine so until you have him in a routine and find they are still coming up after a short time to adapt then you may struggle to find the reason, my ex racehorse has been in at night for the last week and his were up for the first few mornings but have settled now, they went down quickly with exercise or turnout.
My ISH had swollen hind legs when out 24/7 and getting a small amount of linseed, it took me a few days to realise and as soon as I stopped feeding it they went down so that was definitely feed related.
Once he is in a routine you need to cut out either all feed until the legs stop swelling then introduce one at a time over a period of a couple of weeks and see what, if anything, brings them back up, or cut them out one at a time again at several day intervals to see what is causing it, my guess would be that it is a general combination of a change to routine and a bit too much rich grub, the grass is still very good and he is getting a fair amount of feed, my tb is only on grass, hay and grassnuts with a small amount of linseed and looking very tubby despite working fairly hard doing hunter trials recently.

Some horses legs do swell overnight. My horses legs can be quite filled sometimes. By the time he is walked to his paddock they have all but dissapeared. I usually put magnetic boots on my horses legs overnight and this helps. I will definetely do this, this winter when he is in 24 hours a day.
