Hi everyone! I've got my first in-hand show on the 16th (this Saturday)

I'm showing my warm-blood X coloured in the coloured class and best condition class.

whats the "normal" in hand show like and what do you have to do? and tips and tricks that judges love?

is this correct>
1) all competitors enter the ring and begin to walk around.
2) all horses halt and one by one the horses trot around.
3) competitors walk again and are put into a line by the judges.
4) one by one the judges ask you to come forward with your horse.
5) they asses your horses conformation.
6) you turn and walk in a straight line away from them.
7) you turn backwards and trot straight at the judge.
8) you return to your line so that the other competitors can be judged.
9) you will be asked to walk around again and you are placed in order of your prizes.
thank you :)

thank you :)
number 4 - could go in any order or maybe judge picks
between 6 & 7 turn left and do a decent size semi circle so its smooth and then only when your on the straight trot - i cant stand people asking to trot whilst still turning, doesn’t look nice! (hope that make sense)
number 9 - look at the steward they will pick you out :)

and number 10 ....ENJOY!!!!! and if you can ask the judge on what you can improve on :)

Thank you! I'm really nervous as its my first competition and I don't want to let my boy down. I hope the judge is nice so that if I mess up they can reassure me in a way. I'll try to have fun as long as Rego is a good boy haha xx

Just try and enjoy, if you go in and think ill be happy enough if he just behaves and then you come home with a rosette that will be a bonus :)

If you can watch the class before and see what others are doing. Try and enjoy. Good Luck look forward to seeing an update with I hope some frillies too

Yes try and enjoy it.

when standing in the line or when presenting to the judge pick a bit of grass to get his attention if he won't stand still. when walking round always have a quick glance to the steward to see if they are calling you :D

Frillies are a bonus if the horse has behaved :D

Thank you everyone. I'm going to really try and have an amazing time. I'll just get on with it and ignore him if he's being bad. Rosets are just a bonus and a momento of the day xxx

Make sure you practice at home! Its amazing how many horses don't know how to trot next to you in the ring and are being dragged - or even worse shooed by the steward!

Walk at home and find a comfortable forward walk that has your horse in a nice stride - don't dawdle and don't try to walk too fast as your horse will lose rhythm. Make sure your horse is next to you not dragging you or being dragged.

Same for trotting. Practice at home and find your horses natural trot - forwards but not running amd definitely not dawdling! When you trot round the edge walk a stride or two then trot It will keep your horse more balanced than trying to rush into a trot from a stand still.

Male sure your horse can stand eithrr square or with the front legs square and the hinds fractionally off. If you need to shuffle your horse never step back more than 1 leg. If more than one needs moved then go forwards a step. Going back too many just scrunches them up.

As said above walk away in a straight line, come out to your left a little before turning to the right back onto your line straight towards the judge. Make sure sure your horse is straight before trot -it keeps them balanced and some can look lame trotting off a turn. Go straight towards the judge - they will move! Keep going past and round to the right to the edge of the ring and see if your horse will extend a little down the long side. If not don't make him run just keep in a balanced trot for 1/2-3/4 of the line up dependig on how big the class is. Pull up and walk calmly back to line.

Smile and enjoy yourself!
