My incredibly - soon to be divorced at this rate - husband has had a tidy up at home. He has inadvertantly thrown away a document folder (stored in a safe place!) that contained the passport and insurance details of my long term loan horse. Does anyone know how I can obtain a replacement passport (in the owners name (they're not local))? From memory, the passport was issued by PetID. :/

Yes, I am going to contact the owner (especially as I don't have her address anymore!) but wanted to find out what the process is first. I don't even have a note of my girls microchip number and I'm not sure if I need that to request a new passport? Wasn't sure if I could apply for one and pay for the replacement even though its in someone elses name? I don't know - all problems I don't need right now.Anyway, thank you for letting me vent a little as an alternative to actual bodily harm!!

Venting is good. Your vet should be able to do a quick scan and give you the number. Maybe call them and find out when they are next passing the yard and see if they can just pop in and do a quick scan for you x

In the light of my original post one would have hoped that a little bit of venting frustration would be acceptable without it turning into a moral debate! I may feel like running him over with a car but that is a far cry from actually doing so. I thank everyone for your words of encouragement and live safe in the knowledge that no one will be beaten or run over or injured in any way. I have far better ways to show my displeasure ;)

You should be happy that your husband knows how to throw anything away at all - mind believes the tidy up faries just float around and put all his rubbish in the bin !! (little silver lids from milk, toilet roll inners, chocolate bar wrappers etc.)

I'd be shocked if he actually went through an area of the house and chucked stuff!

Tbh I think its probably easier to replace the husband than the passport :p
You have no idea! I contacted the passport office (PetIdEquine) only to find that the passport number on the loan agreement does not exist in their records nor do they have a record of the owner. I have either been given the wrong passport number or the passporting office is wrong (but I'm 99% sure) or the owner never changed the blessed thing when they bought her 6 years ago. next step is to get a vet to scan her chip and to investigate further :(

can you not call the owner and ask them to sort passport? alternativly you could just call your vet, explain and get a new passport issued. i had to do this a year ago with one of mine, it cost about £100 give or take and when filling in the form there were boxes to tick to state weather you are legal owner or carer etc so its quite simple. your lucky it was just a petID passport lol. stupid hubby! :p

Of course violence and abuse are serious matters - been there - but i laughed loudly at the suggestions to what to do with hubby. All done with humour and no intent expected :)Hope hubby is suitably mortified by what he has done :)

OMG! That thought hadn't occurred to me. Perhaps the crafty so & so had a plan all along....

Before my parents were married they bought a house (but did not live in it) and were doing it up. My mother and (now) godmother painted all the light switches and plug sockets with purple gloss paint.

She's never had to paint anything since...;)

No -they can't be trusted not to let them get wet out in the field

Thanks for saying what I was thinking - was trying to come up with a "safe" to keep a passport with a horse. Of course, OP might well have SECURE livery yard, but at my yard I wouldn't trust the horses to stop thieves from kicking open my old shed ...
