Ok so I have a more on trial for 2 weeks and her teats seam awful low and large

Going to get vet out but just so see what you's think ?

Going off Tess so im sure more knowledgeable people would explain but i dont think she is :) Just looks like she had a few in the past

Really panicking lol . She's getting vetted next week so will ask vet what he thinks ... But I am happy to listen to more opinions :)

i actually thought her teats looked very big when you posted the pic originally. I hope shes not in foal, best thing to do is get the vet to check her over.

Sorry no help on original question but would love to know where that head collar is from??!!my favourite brand and colour but cannot find them anywhere these days - google shows up no results been looking for years for a replacement and don't like other brands as much! Sorry to hijack!

Not the most knowledgeable person on these things but IMHO I'd say no she doesn't look pregnant, more like she's nursed foals previously but get a vet out to check if you're really worried.

I think to get a vet to confirm they either have to do a physical exam (which plenty of owners don't want as his carries risk of damage, and I guess only confirms after the foetus is a certain size) or a blood test that takes a few days to come back.

Might be worth talking to your vet in advance of the vetting so they can bring the necessary tubes to do the blood test (and check the cost).

Given the number of BOGOF's that appear to be around at the moment a double check has got to be worth the extra cash in the short term vs the cost of looking after her in foal/ foaling/ nursing etc.!

Thanks for all your replies guys.

She is only 5 so worried that she seems a bit young to may-bay have already weaned a foal or 2

The girl i have got her on trial from has told me she got her from a dealer around 4 months ago , the dealer brings cobs over from ireland so she may have been covered before then. I really hope not as i do really like this little mare. :(

With the greatest of respect, that type of mare in Ireland, will have been covered at 2 and could easily have foaled twice.

Yeh thats what im worried about , but she is getting vetted and seems a happy little lady so fingers crossed she has had a foal and not in foal

You cannot change the past. I really hope she passes the vet, which she probably will, because if you think about it, if she spent her youth in foal she did not spend it being thrashed across Ireland in the hunting field, which many of Irish cob type horses do.

Good luck and have lots of fun with her.

Exactly , looks like had a foal not having a foal to me.
In the past it was common to put draught mares on farms in foal at two they where started and learnt the basics of their work in early stages of their pregnancy then foaled at three raised their foal then went to work.
Fingers crossed for the vetting.

Looks asthough she has previously had a foal, although im no expert!

My Mare had a foal at 3 (Before i got her)and then another at 5:rolleyes: BOGOF deal and her last owner -who actually bred her- denied all knowledge of her being near any stallions:confused:.. But was quick enough to offer me more than double what i paid for her to buy the both off them back off me.. Making me think he knew something.

All in all, my mare is now rising 8 and is healthy and happy and i have a beautiful 3yo..

Fingers crossed for you though!

Hope the vetting goes well.
Given her history and the fact that the seller can't give you any assurance over whether she'd been with a colt or not (given she's only owned her for 4 months) I would get the vet to do a pregnancy check even if she had absolutely no visable signs of ever having foaled previsouly.
