Hi
My horse got kicked and had a huge cut on his leg. It started healing well but he is itching it like mad. He has a lot of feather which does itch at times but isnt really a probelm to him if I keep them clean. But he keeps knocking this wound and is hindering the way it is healing. I have put him on global herbs 'SCRATCH' but its not really working. Any suggestions would be great.

I presume the cut is free from feathers. Cuts itch when they heal its part of the healing process. I know mine do.

Is it smelly or discharging at all?

Skratch is really for itchy skin I think.

As it is fly season, I would put a dry dressing on it such as dry animalintex or a human dry dressing with vetwrap or similar.

If it is smelly or discharging, call a vet. I wouldnt take any chances.

Are you putting any kind of cream on it? if so that could be causing the itch. I have a couple of horses who react very badly to Sudocrem which alot of folk use.

You could try yellow fly cream...it stops flies laying eggs in teh wound and is antiseptic and forms barrier to allow healing, only down side...it is bright yellow
