My 5yr old section D was a total witch last week, she's been moody, spooky and just not her usual self to be around.

I had a lesson on her last week and she kept spooking, nothing nasty, just slamming on the brakes and leaving me feeling like jelly!

I have another lesson tomorrow night and im dreading it!

I just dont want to school her.

HELP. Ive been so upset this week. I just miss just getting on and getting on with it.

She's a green youngster and also my first horse so quite a task!

Just a thought, she's not coming into season is she... or it could be the spring grass.

Failing that the usual teeth, back and tack checks might be in order if it's uncharacteristic!?

I think most first time owners have been through exactly what you are going through so reassure yourself that it is completely natural.
I got my confidence back by spending as much time as possible with my horse and doing lots of things in my 'comfort zone'.
It takes time to build up confidence and having lessons is an important part of it so try to stick to them otherwise things will get more difficult.
Go to your lesson tomorrow and repeat to yourself 'I am a confident, capable rider'. Have some faith in your ability!
Good luck!

Hi I am in a very similar situation as you, I am first time horse owner and have a 5 yr old welsh D gelding. He has been being very full of it lately, he was on hard feed but took him off as he doesnt need it, and it has calmed him down. I also have regular lessons from my RI/YO who is fantastic and has really helped. I did lose my confidence on him when he decided to chuck me off on a hack a bolt across a main road! but i have gradually got it back and they just need to know they you are in charge not them.
Good Luck!
